We are celebrating 10 year of marriage this year. I also got a big job this year and will be getting a nice bonus. Wanted to make a nice gift for DH. Do you think Rolex watch is a stupid idea?
Wanted to surprise him, but he has everything but nice watch and always wanted one. Thank you, please don’t call me crazy for such “problem”. |
| If he wants one, get one. What’s the big deal? |
| Sure. It’s not everyone’s style, but if he always wanted specifically a Rolex, then sure get it. But there are lots of other good brands of watches, and it depends on your budget and DH’s style, some much more exclusive than Rolex, others a bit less. So, only get a Rolex if your DH specifically wanted a Rolex and not a “nice watch”. |
| I was going to get one for my husband a few years ago. When we shopped for one, they said that they drop time yearly and are not a time piece used to accurate time. The Jeweler (Tyson’s 2) said if you want a time piece to tell time, don’t get a Rolex. We thought that was dumb so we didn’t get one. |
This is correct. But it’s always been that way. If you want accurate time get $20 Timax or Casio |
| Just remember that it will basically sit in a drawer 364 days a year. |
Why? Most people wear watches daily. |
Not correct. Rolex is a very accurate mechanical watch. I think most have COSC certification, which requires them to be accurate with plus or minus two seconds a day. Sure, a digital watch likely will be even more accurate, but saying that a Rolex isn’t accurate is not really true. There’s also an aesthetic consideration. Some people like to wear a nice looking watch. Sounds like OP’s husband is one of those people. OP, my DW got me a watch as a wedding gift years ago. Not a Rolex, but another high-end brand. I never really wore a watch before then, but have worn it daily ever since. |
Lol @ another high end brand… only one Rolex! That’s what makes it unique |
| DH has worn hud daily for 10 years and keeps perfect time. I got one at the same time and it always was a little slow. Rolex is self-wound. It definitely does not keep tine if not worn consistently. dH loves his. I should sell mine. |
I don't get this comment. Rolex isn't unique. It's the BMW 3 series of luxury watches--it's decent and recognizable, but it's not going to impress anyone even slightly into watches. |
Lol, you obviously don’t know much about watches. Rolex is probably the most famous watch brand in the world but is actually on the low end of the luxury watch price scale. Brands like Patek Philippe and Audemars Piguet have far higher price points than Rolex. |
|
Op, if you can afford one and DH likes watches then Rolex is the best.
The good ones are: 1. Submariner - classic and actually go up in value with time. At least right now 2. GMT - another high demand watch 3. President - would run you more than 35-40K but retains it value. This is full gold and very flasy 4. Cellini - with leather band and very sleak and classy 5. datejust - two tones are pretty good. Go for 41 MM size and not 36 mm which doesn't have that good resale value. |

Hey OP, good luck on finding a Rolex at any Rolex jeweler. There aren’t any available. And when I say "there aren’t any" I mean that in the sense that there are zero available at retail from an AD (authorized dealer).
You can have one tomorrow, however, if you got to the grey market dealers. They have any model you could possibly want, both brand new and also used. Plan on paying 1.5 to 3 times retail price. This has been going on for a few years now and I don’t see it changing anytime soon. |

Do not get me wrong, but what is he getting to you?
For our anniversary I got a high end watch to my husband, and he forgot about the anniversary… yes, we had some health issues with the kids those days but still felt a bit weird… |
