APS hurts children again by canceling Extracurriculars until January 14th

APS woke up a sleeping giant

HAHAHA. Awww, you’re so precious.

They postponed stuff for kids only. They also sent an email saying rec centers open for adults after the holiday on Jan 3rd. Adults can continue to catch and spread Covid. Two different standards.

THAT is just wrong policy. They're either acting like only kids are catching and spreading COVID; or they're acting to protect only kids. Not that those kids would be protected from their parents and other adult contacts going to the gym.

Is the county doing anything to limit indoor bar gatherings for NYE? I see you can buy tickets for events in Clarendon. Why is that okay but all activities for kids need to be postponed? Aren't 20 somethings the least vaccinated/boosted group in Arlington?

The economy is more important.

"OMG, my kids' school just closed! I can't believe they'd do this to us! I'm going to vote Republican in the next election, that'll show them!"

(Thus the cycle repeats itself.)

This exactly. And then they dare accuse people or “hurting kids” who are responsible and who care.

None of the other counties are canceling sports. This is just to appease the Arlington nuts

This thread is overrun by mentally ill obsessive sports parents.

I think it’s so funny how many parents think they’re precious kids are good enough to play their sport(s) in college, much less get a scholarship for it. A short pause isn’t going to prevent them from continuing their athletic careers.

I don’t care if my kid plays in college or not. Their sport is part of their HS experience, and I’d like them to have it, especially after last year.

It doesn’t make sense to me, though, to stop all winter sports when every VHSL winter athlete is vaccinated. These kids will hopefully be in class all day five days a week with kids who are possibly unvaccinated.

If this is such a sensible decision, why has no other school district taken similar steps?

Yup. General a-holes.

The ironic part is that club sports won’t be cancelled and most athletes participate in both

OP you are a clown and clearly have no clue about children who have actually been hurt. The title of your thread is insulting and shows your privilege.

It says "extracurriculars" in the topic line. Who's the clown, again?

What makes you say that? Again, look at what’s happening in the professional sports world. COVID will come for amateur athletes and their teams too.

Hey OP how do you react when you face actual adversity in your life thanks I'll take my answer off the air

Yup. Your kid can’t do newspaper club, but according to the AP&R website, your 55 year old neighbor can roll into the Madison Center on Monday at 1:30 for a folk music sing-along. We’re lucky Gen Z doesn’t rise up and murder us all in our sleep.

Maybe they’re trying to kill off the seniors.

Tons of local TV media coverage tonight of cancellation of extracurriculars and sports, pretty much 100% negative.

Hmmm…the coverage I saw was pretty balanced. A few overwrought parents who seem to think their kids can’t handle a 2 week pause.
