DC UA tryout$ - aka CSE money grab

Corrigan strikes again - website shows Highlight team is coached by a couple of a Richmond coaches and a guy from Maryland. That gave some non-Capital folks some hope that it may be fair....until you showed up and the jackass who runs Capital is running the show and apparently he’s the coach now. After what happened last year, it should be shocking that Corrigan would allow him to still be involved, but at this point it’s obvious they only care about the money.

Should be interesting to see how many Capital kids are on this roster - what a complete farce. Some of them will definitely deserve it but it is hard not to paint the whole process with a broad brush with that tool involved.

The entire Under Armour all American underclass tryouts for girls in DC are a farce. It’s pure nepotism, cronyism and favors. Everyone in the lacrosse world knows this. Even coaches in other cities consider the DC tryouts the worst of lax politics. It has been for several years now. This isn’t news. It’s also far from just a Capital thing. Other coaches get their players in too (look at last years rosters, some real ringers) by basically horse-trading for spots. I’d say 1/2 of each roster is legit. Other half is kids who are no where near the best players in the region. People should smarten up and stop wasting their money.

It was a joke today. UA in DC is a sham and now that the company (UA) is going downhill financially (no t-shirts this year), the joke may soon be over with Corrigan holding the bag as they did with the IWLCA earlier. We will all see their money grab when they try to repackage it.

Too bad the last one this year won’t even happen with Maryland now added to the NY/NJ quarantine list. RIP UA. Not.

Congrats to the girls that do make it, whether by hook or by crook. Spending 4-5 hours in the heat, at least they put in the sweat for it.

How about the dads on there and moms assessing and club coaches who were really objective. If you want a fair process this is not one for sure. For what? Recruitment that won’t happen

Agreed. It was a total cluster today, and I have a daughter who actually made the 44 game for younger division (Commnand, maybe??).

Half the girls in that game could barely run and catch, so clearly some major favoritism. The other half was Baltimore girls who got cut from their try out. Game was cut short as they ran out of time on field rental too. Crazy!

As I watched top flight girls from DC area schools/clubs walk out shaking their collective heads wondering who in the heck does the evaluating, I realize that UA is an absolute joke and Corrigan just fills his bank account. As mentioned above, games probably won't happen, which is just fine with us. We are done with this group.

Shame on the leaders in this area that would not allow a fair process to these kids. Shame on them. Word is getting out what schools, programs were there. Shame on you for not allowing a fair process for these kids. I will say it again kids.

My daughter made the last game in Command and I am pretty sure the girls that weren’t invited could form a team that would beat whatever final team gets made a majority of the time. It’s like they missed half of the list for the call back game and read the wrong one.

Under Armour - inferior products and now inferior tournaments. As one poster said above, no wonder the company is starting to stink like a dead fish. Associating with CSE is not helping their brand.

My daughter made this game as well. It was crazy how bad some of the girls were and knowing who was not called back, I was shocked. My daughter got in the car and said something very similar to your statement. She knew it for sure, which really dampened her excitement. It's like they read the wrong list, exactly.

UA is down the drains, 100%!

This has been the knock on this particular event for years, which is why many of the best players in the area don't bother trying out. It's not taken seriously. You could field a team of those who didn't bother coming out that would more than likely beat the selected team. There are some good players, but it would be a far stretch to say the selected team is made up of the best talent.

Those surprised by this outcome haven't been paying attention to the selection politics of years past.

My daughter was in the final game too and it was noticeable. I guess it shouldn’t be surprising that the park staff showed up and kicked them off the field at 4:00. Just another example of how much a clown show UA and CSE have become.

Appreciate all of the comments. As a Dad of a rising 8th grader, it is great to have this point of view. We will stay away, most likely. Need to find a better option for a showcase.

Too bad. I did want to support UA and Corrigan, but doesn't seem to be the right place any more. Oh well...these types of events come and go.

The final game was a major improvement over the really selfish play that had been going on all day. All of the top kids we know in the area were there and yes, that’s a ton of Capital kids (other clubs too but Capital is still #1). I don’t understand why that’s so shocking to anyone.

I assume this is referring to the Highlight game...
