DC UA tryout$ - aka CSE money grab

Anonymous
I am a parent of a 23 girl who plays as in Baltimore and did not try out ( because she wasn’t likely to make team, not because she was too good). Skywalkers has been sending it’s girls to try out in dc for a few years now, and there were at least one girl, who was very good that made that team. However, the bulk of girls who tried out for dc look to be Howard county girls who play for M&D or Hero’s, not girls from Baltimore city clubs. Given the strength of both those clubs (neither of which my child plays for), it isn’t surprising they made the team.

That is hilarious. Evaluators are there for the guise of impartiality - coaches can say who makes the callback game, etc.

The evaluators are a combo of club and high school coaches. The club coaches push their guys, the high school coaches push their guys. They vote between the evaluators and if there is a tie, the UA regional coaches decide who they want. My kid played in the WCAC and for UA a few years back. This information is from a former UA coach. This is probably mostly true.

I was an evaluator and can’t tell you the voting occurring was not fair, people pushing for their players and voting together. I wish all the players good luck. Most of the best talent from the area was not there. I was very surprised. Heard most of the players stayed away because the DC tryout is notoriously unfair and very political.

When a company smells, it smells. Under Armour got a notice from the SEC this morning for investigation into the company. Last UA ever this year? Funny business to the core?

By the way moron - the evaluators are coaches - that’s their real job. UA uses local high school and club coaches as the evaluators. That’s what everyone means when they say the evaluators/coaches form voting blocks and trade votes to get their players on the roster. Yes, in addition to the evaluator/coaches there are the individual coaches assigned to the highlight and command teams for the tournament and they don’t fill out evaluation forms, but if you think they don’t have a voice in the final selection, I have a bridge to sell you...

The game has been the same for years. The UA head coach will invite his buddies to be assistants and load the room with club coaches who will promote his kids and their clubs.

It’s disgusting that a bunch of adult coaches treat high school kids so badly. Pure corruption. 🤮

It is sad that when kids sports has gotten to this level. Especially when coaches will allow this to occur. Again shame on the leaders of lacrosse in this area. It is your duty to help the kids in this area. By not objectively and honestly observing, you have essentially hurt the integrity of the game. Most people know the adults there and their integrity is lacking.

doesn't seem like many St. Stephens/St Agnes girls made either team. Has the program fallen that far?

Most who follow HS lacrosse would tell you that SSSAS is probably a top 5 national HS team in 2021 (if there is a 2021 season). I'm no fan, but I don't think that's the issue here....

UA as it was is cancelled. CSE still clinging to the money tree with a new regional tournament for teams.

Couldn’t pay me to participate in an event where moms and dads are selecting teams. Daddy ball at its best and non high school coaches coaching the team. What a joke....

Looks like Saint Stephen's has two girls, one on each of the DC teams. A midfielder and an attacker.

Is it their Stanford or Hopkins midfiled commit? Saint Stephen's starting lineup next seasson, if the girls have one, should definitely be as good as ay in the country with all the girls they have committed to play at the next level.
