| Can someone please explain what is so bad? |
| UA and Corrigan are a joke. Nobody should worry about it. People all over the lax world know it to be true. Play great for your club, and everything else is secondary. |
Every parent of a player that did not make the callback game makes this statement every year no matter who is selecting the team. |
|
The VA Metro coaches are the coaches for the UA team. Our club team destroyed them the last time we played (something like 15-1). They had 9-10 girls called back to final Command game, we had 3. Come on, it's a joke.
Why not have coaches switch regions for the tryout? There are a million ways to make it fair and unbiased, and they do none of them. But it will continue to be until parents don't support it. I am impressed with the good players who didn't go this year because they know how it works. This is our last year. Will never give them money like an idiot again. The only way they stop is if parents stop supporting them. Hopefully, enough parents will feel that way soon. |
And every parent of a player who made the callback blindly ignores the politics and foolishly believes the best players actually make it. Some of the complaints are warranted, others not. There are some very good players that get called back. And some very good players who will make the final roster. But when you include players who struggle with lacrosse basics or evaluators who somehow fill the call back with their own players it does make people wonder what the catch is. This event has earned a poor reputation and is not taken seriously anymore, which is keeping top talent from coming out. This is the challenge. Can the event get back to a point where all the top players will attend. |
OP here. I don't disagree. I have a son who went through process, made a UA team 2x also got cut 2x. We had our up's and down's.He had teammates who both made the team as well as didn't make the team over the 4 years of HS. My only point was it all seems to work out for the kids who played great for their club. That was a bigger indicator than whether they made the UA team or callback year on a given year. |
| Baltimore girls command and highlight was fairest it have been in years. |
Yea well the Highlight division has players from clubs like YJ South '22 and MC Elite '22 that can't even beat mediocre B teams - most recent Mid Atlantic tournament is perfect example. Weak club teams with weak players who make UA only because of horse trading and politics. Pathetic. |
It’s clearly political. So obvious. The Metro coaches are terrible. One is at Flint Hill, and terrible. The other got fired from Centreville after one year because they won one game. Two peas in a pod. |
Somehow 4 VAM girls make the Command team --- more than Capital, Pride and Stars combined. I don't even like all of those clubs and I will admit it smells fishy. VAM doesn't play anywhere near the level of teams and schedule those clubs play. If the Metro girls are that good, why do they struggle in their mid-level tournaments? Bad coaching? Then why are they the UA coaches? If the coaches are that good, why can't they win with that talent? Maybe the talent isn't really that good? |
| Not that it is any consolation, but I think things are better (less bad?) on the boys side. Some politics in play for sure, and maybe more so for the callback games than team rosters. But the DC boys won the Command division last year and lost in finals of Highlights, indicating that at least the right players (or at least enough of the right players) made the teams. |
| The DC Command girls lost in the finals 2 years ago with the Highlight coach from this year (who also coached highlight last year) but the interesting thing was he didn’t pick the team because he couldn’t attend tryouts. But I believe he completely changed after that and turned into the most political and unscrupulous douche in DC girls lacrosse. |
| Yes some B team teams can not beat A teams But there are good players that still can play on B teams. And yes still get recruited. Playing on certain teams does not earn you a spot on a UA team. |
All true but the star (best) players from these B tier teams are not the ones who made the Highlight roster. Those girls are totally random and not top players, aren’t the play makers. We all know enough about these teams and these girls to spot the ones who have roster spots based on politics, and based on being willing to play defense. It’s pretty pathetic when a kid who normally plays M or A tries out as a D because she knows it gives her a better chance to make the team. |
| That may be true but if a pure defender can't beat out a middie or attacker who trys out as a defender, it seems like maybe they aren't that good |
