It I was in charge, the agencies would be fully staffed and I would be consulting with experts in their fields about the best course of action.

No, but I would require everyone who has just landed in the US from Asia (not just China) to be quarantined and tested before they're able to get off their flight.

"CDC estimates that so far this season there have been at least 6.4 million flu illnesses, 55,000 hospitalizations and 2,900 deaths from flu," the CDC said. That’s almost 2 million more illnesses and 800 more deaths than reported in last week's update.

I get that people are worried about what might happen with this new virus. But, in the US, we're still going to school, grocery stores, and generally carrying on as normal with an infection rate in the millions and many more deaths and a MUCH smaller population than China.

How many people died as a result of the SARS pandemic? In total, less than the number who died in the US from the flu in just the past week. No one in the US died from SARS.

This is callous. You're not being a voice of reason, you are dismissing what is happening in Wuhan, Hubei, and all of China as well as Thailand, Singapore and all over.

I mean yes, the flu is bigger, but Corona started a month ago in China and in a month the situation completely deteriorated and the hospitals they’re building are already not enough.

The flu has a mortality rate of 0.1% while the Wuhan virus has a mortality rate somewhere between 3-15%.
