Historically, they just resumed work once funding was restored. He's looking to lawlessly do that entirely on his own and is lying about it to give himself cover.

So what is the goal here for the Dems? It seems they are just doing a little adjustment of policy. The Dems could careless are about the Epstein files, Trump putting US military in the streets of blue cities, blowing up innocent fishermen, Trump and his family’s corruption, ICE’s Criminal activities, the FBI arresting elected democrats officials, masked men abducting people off the street, etc.

The Dems want to help ease the pain for maga and keep rural hospitals open? Sounds like a win for Trump.

Trump tweeted celebrating Vought. Also all Republicans in Congress are happy about Vought and the shutdown because they’re in power and could change the situation very easily!

DP. He can’t though. RIFs create additional financial obligations. Should be obvious but you legally are not allowed to make new financial obligations during a shutdown.

It's his choice, which makes it his shutdown. And if he proceeds with eliminating agencies that were established by statute, that's illegal and he needs to be held accountable. Similarly, if he does massive staff cuts that cripple agencies and prevent them from carrying out statutorily mandated responsibilities, that's also illegal and he needs to be held accountable. Trump and everyone involved - including Vought and all involved agency officials.

Trumps could (and did) do it regardless of what the Democrats do/did. Trump made the rule to do it, so he will own it. If the Dems caved, Trump would/could STILL do it — AND get what he wants with regard to the budget.

Bingo. That's why all the threats are hollow. They've been firing people and eliminating agencies for months. They are going to keep trying to do it regardless of any shutdown or CR. In order for a threat to be credible, you other side has to believe you will stop if they give into your demands. Democrats know they won't.
