Time for Americans to actually experience a federal government shutdown. The Republicans are in charge and they need to govern which means working within the confines of reality.

Duffy should stop tweeting and see if he can locate Mike Johnson.

Sure, Ivan.

Americans have experienced it, and collectively just don’t seem to care. This is the risk in the D strategy, and is why Mike Johnson is happy to be MIA.

No, Americans have not really experienced it because so many are classified as "essential" - close down the ports, the airports, all of the border crossing points, the USPS; meat processing inspectors and so on. and people will experience it.

At some point federal workers can't continue to work if they don't get paid.

The food inspectors are already not working, so be sure to cook everything thoroughly.

Spin it any way you want. There will be a vote to open the government. If Democrats vote it down it’s on them.

No one needs to spin anything. Poll after poll shows people blame Republicans for the shutdown.

You are right, but Dems have an often misunderstood (or ignore) what the people are trying to say. Most notably what independents want. The Dems win but believe they have a mandate for everything they’re putting forth and then we get … Trump 1.0. Then to moderate that we get Biden. Then Trump 2.0.

We’ll get Dem XYZ next but they’ll misread the people again.

Ugh.

Just has very “you made me angry so now I’m going to hit you”vibes.

We live in a two party system. If you are lucky, you get to occasionally vote for someone you like. If not you vote for the lesser of two evils. And you certainly don’t vote for someone who says they will be a dictator on day one.

What are you smoking? It can stay 2 party. Just want two different parties.

+ 1 million

I'm convinced people think the two entities currently controlling our two-party system are public entities that can't be left to fail. They are in fact failing dysfunctional PRIVATE entities that should be allowed to fail unless there is some magical way for them to be completely overhauled and reformed.

Sure, and then the next duopoly can just repeat the process after a few years or maybe a generation of good(ish) government.

Its probably past time to re-evaluate how we do democracy and even if democracy is the right answer.

Mighty optimistic of you to think there will be a decade of good governance.

It will simply be a rebrand, except less chips and more hot air in the bag.

All I know is I'm working without pay even though my fee-funded agency is not dependent on appropriations.

No, because there should always be a plan to eject the major parties when they stop working for the people. Right now, they have no threat and no reason to improve. They need each other and keep each other in power.

I don’t know what that looks like practically but the two existing parties need to go.

Who do you think is going to “shut it down”, obviously not Trump ? The rank and file are scared and soldiering on.

Also USPS is self funded w/o Congressional authorization. Ports close/strike all the time, and no one cares. Meat processing is on auto pilot. The only real leverage is TSA or ATC, just like last time.

This.
Send every single federal worker home until Mikey gets his act together.

They are a two headed monster who rely on each other's weaknesses and corruption to coexist.

Not sure how you think the government is actually shutdown when thousands of Feds are still working. They’re not getting paid, but they are working.

Seems the D strategy is working though. Thune is now bleating on about not getting rid of the filibuster because it would hurt his credibility. As if the GOP has any credibility at this point. In any event, it’s clear that the GOP was planning on pinning the OBBB disaster on the Dems. Instead the GOP is going to have to own it.

The current executive branch is not going to send them home. But, they will be taking names of those that don’t show up.

If people don't show up it's probably because they are interviewing for other jobs.

Most people can't not get paid for a few months and be able to continue to afford to live. Canada and the EU need air traffic controllers too.

I'm pretty sure this is a feature, not a bug, of the current stalemate.

I hope everyone is driving for Thanksgiving this year. Even if they reopen the government, the delays and cancellations cascade for a few weeks.

I am flying to Europe the day after Thanksgiving. If this effs up the trip I’ve had planned for a year I will be LIVID.

ALL of our politicians are absolutely useless. And clearly do not give a single f about the average person.

Johnson and Schumer dang sure don't give a dang about you, me, or your trip to Europe.
