I bet it’s Lagoa. Less religious baggage. More diverse. They get the Florida votes. However, it may annoy their evangelicals who want an authoritarian loving abortion fighter like coney Barret. They want to be in the show the handmaids.

Essentially between the two it’s a tough call. both being their own flavor of distasteful right wing views. It’ll be fun to watch them couch their extreme views in eloquent sophistry as the country becomes further poliarized by all the 6-3 outcomes. Nice work trump and Mitch. You folks are truly class acts and will be remembers favorably by historians.

I feel like if we survived Clarence Thomas replacing Thurgood Marshall, we can survive this as awful as it is. The good news is Roberts and Gorsuch are less predictable than expected, and Biden may end up being able to replace a conservative justice in addition to Breyer. I also suspect that Kavanaugh is cautious about being perceived negatively, especially by women.

Lagoa needs to recuse herself from cases involving Trump, or Trump employees, right away, then.

I agree with you and PP Lagoa is more likely. Her confirmation numbers are more down the middle whereas Barrett is hyper partisan in votes. Some moderate Repubs might have trouble with her in addition to the pressure put on them by reversing the McConnell rule.

What if Trump goes full looney and does go with Coney Barret, as in recent months mouth breathing conservatives have been whining about Roberts. I wonder if trump Will really throw them a wing nut like Coney Barret as an SC justice.

It would be a foolish move given the possibility of wavering party support, and McConnell told him last time she'd have a harder time getting through. Once Trump hears Lagoa will help him win FL, he'll pick her. He doesn't care about any of these issues, just wants to win. Lagoa is conservative enough for evangelicals even if she won't galvanize them to the same extent.

At this point, I hope he does try to appoint Barrett, and I hope all f her cult crap comes out for the world to see. If the GOP really wants to put that into the highest court in the land, they will lose the election and any legitimacy with average voters for a generation. There will be no more "hataboutism" for anything.

Trump was right, the system is rigged.

A 6th GOP justice, nominated by an impeached president who lost the popular vote by 3M, confirmed by GOP senators representing 15M fewer Americans than their Democratic colleagues, after Obama's pick couldn't even get a vote.

She doesn't have to recuse intil after she is picked.

We may have "survived" Thomas, but I think he was unqualified and his jurisprudence has been harmful. Also Thomas is one of the most predictable justices in history.

Yes he's horrible. Maybe RBG's replacement, though different, will be less horrible.

The problem is, her decision could be tainted by the promise of an appointment. She has a common taint that even a dog catcher would recuse from.
