N95 mask

Sold out.

Are you guys really concerned enough about this to buy masks? I’m asking seriously. I haven’t been following this, but the death rate seems pretty low compared to other outbreaks.

I have some asthma and figure I can use them to clean up dusty areas, so why not?

Yep, it is kind of just in case. If you won't need them, hope and pray we won't, you can always use them
for clean up or painting or anything else. Or donate to the local hospital or another facillty like elder care or something?

Precisely. I just came back from Home Depot. Two boxes of 40 left on the shelf (the ones I got from Amazon have the valve). Bought one. There was a Chinese woman there taking photos of all the masks - probably shopping for some for family. That made me sad for her

My neighbor cancelled his trip but his wife and her parents are leaving Bejing tomorrow to come back - they plan to self-isolate at their beach home for at least two weeks. Low risk they are carrying it but I thought that was a very responsible thing for them to do. Of course the house sits on the water and is around 8000 square feet - not much of a hardship

If things start getting hairy here, I'm going to go up north to my own beach place - my son is at UMA and I'm anticipating a case or two there; we might see some colleges shut down for a bit as a precaution if it starts to spread. I'd go get him and go straight to the beach and isolate with him I guess. None of this should be necessary but I always have a plan B. Always.

Did you buy the N95s? Or another type?

Taking photo of masks. She should have bought them. They are sold out online and my dr office said they are on back order. Yikes!

So how the dentists will do the work now? They will probably use the nylon on the face like bank robbers?

That really made me laugh.

Time to buy the selloff -- not in the TSP but overall. This will be a blip on the radar -- it'll be figured out.

Yep. Just like the bird flu freaked people out and then it was a non-event. This will be old news soon enough. But with all the mask sales, buy stock in the mask manufactures like 3M.

Pharmaceuticals do well in epidemic scares.

I wouldn’t want to be far away from a hospital.

The cure rate seems pretty low, judging by the Lancet report. Even intubation etc don’t seem to help much.might be better to go out on your own terms, staring out at the sea rather than a grim hospital ward.

This isn't rabies for God's sake. I read the Lancet report and it said no such thing about 100% or even 90% fatalities.

If that thing can go from animals to humans, can it go from humans to animals, as in..
if a person gets it, can a home pet get it from them?

I’m concerned about my pet bat.

I think my snakebat is ok. He was acting weird, but I bled him a bit (great base for stew!) and all seems ok now.

Don’t forget to boil him. Just to be on the safer side.

Excellent point. Cashing in on this paranoia. I also have a pile of masks for work around the house, when the ebay prices skyrocket, I'll sell those off.

My friend is set to leave on a solo trip to India on Thursday, flying through Singapore. She still plans to go, but having been to hospitals there, I think I'd reconsider at this current juncture.

SARS was similar but didn’t spread significantly in US, did it?

Just FYI, N95 or N100 masks are useless against GETTING coronavirus, they only protect you against bird flue, swine flue and the likes, so don't even waste your money on it.

What you need is NBC or CBRG gas masks if it really comes down to that point. (Most sold out already on Amazon). During the meantime, wash your hands and disinfect all surfaces are the best things you can do right now.
