Friday's "snow?"

It was Rocky Hill and and the accident was on Clarksburg Rd. Which is treacherous and a salt truck broke down on that to add to the crazy. That road has huge potholes, crazy turns and very steep inclines and drops. I don’t know why the bus did not just take Burnt Hill Rd. It is more gentle and completely empty. I took this road to get to my job and it was easy and though snow-covered my AWD suv made it through without one swerve.

According to multiple sources, a bus en route to Rosa Parks got stuck in a ditch. And another bus was involved in an incident.

Rosa Parks has kids from not only Olney but also further north in Brookeville. It legit snowed all morning out here.

Well, we expect weaponry in our schools and salt on our roads! This is America!

Made by people who don't seem to understand ice and snow. places with crazy snow even know better than to mess with icy conditions tho they have the equipment to clear quickly. They close for cold before they close for snow. But not here. MCPS: my way or the...

There weren't icy conditions. There was a small amount of snow. Did you even go outside this morning? This absolutely would have been a normal school day anywhere with real winters. Kids wouldn't have even bothered to hope for a snow day.

Still trolling. Neighborhood roads in Rockville were not treated, causing loss of traction for vehicles. Only after 9am did a salt truck appear in our neighborhood after schools had started for the day...

That doesn't mean icy. There was snow. You can drive on snow. You will slide, but it's fine if you're careful. Maintain some momentum and keep your wheels turning.

It's too bad you never learned how to drive.

I think today should have been a delay because many roads were not treated until well after high school and middle school students had to leave. Our road was snow covered until after 8. We are walkers so my kids were fine. We don’t mind walking in snow. But I heard our principal putting out an all alert over the announcement system about coverage because so many teachers were late that they didn’t know what class rooms were staffed (my kid is a 5th grade patrol so this was before most kids arrived). I saw at least one bus pulling in quite late as I was leaving for work, don’t know how it was for the others but we are a small neighborhood school so if we had delays I suspect it was worse for others. Hardly the end of the world but really stupid to cause this hassle because they screwed up earlier in the week (and I 100 percent believe that were it not for Tuesday they would have called the delay).

Read the earlier messages in this thread. Teachers were late because they through a temper tantrum, refusing to leave their homes early like any responsible professional. Sometimes your commutes will take longer.

My fair at all. 9 of our teachers were late as they commute from places like Poolesville, Jefferson, Middletown, Westminster, Hagerstown, Point of Rocks and Randallstown. They all left between 6:30-7a except the Poolesville teacher who left at 7:15. Their commutes were awful with some having to find another source for daycare as their daycare was closed or they could not get to their child’s daycare. 28 was a hot mess and it took Poolesville teacher a little over 2 hours to get to work. It is not these teacher’s fault that they have to live in affordable areas far from central Gaithersburg where they work. That is what they can afford. Stop bashing teachers for everything.

Come on. They obviously should have left earlier than that. It's their own fault they were late. What were they expecting?

Funny you bring up daycare today. Did you also complain when MCPS closed before-care on Tuesday? Or were you one of the posters blaming parents?

What mcps has needed above all since the pandemic is a leader who can rebuild good will between schools and the community. This guy seems hell bent on doing the opposite.

Closing schools at the drop of a hat would do the exact opposite of rebuilding good will. Today was exactly what we needed for that.

Anonymous wrote:MCPS does not put safety first. That is a lie because they would have called for a delay like every other sensible school district in the area. One teacher at my school was in a car accident while driving to work this morning. Another teacher lost control on an untreated road and needed to be towed out of ditch. They never made it to work. Don’t think they will be coming in on any future snow days no matter what mcps decides. Oh and if your kid goes to a certain hs, they sat in a chaotic gym waiting for teachers to arrive. Many of whom didn’t get there until second period. So teachers came in “delayed” anyway, but at least you had someone to babysit your kid.

Accidents can happen any day.

And while it sucks that some students had teachers who didn't plan for a longer commute, ultimately missing out on an hour or so of class, I don't see why that's reason to make 159,000 other
kids needlessly miss class.

Can you not read or comprehend or are you just another arsehat who needs to be erased from this earth? The teachers got in accidents! It is not that they did not plan to leave earlier. They either lost control of their vehicle due to unsafe conditions OR they were struck by another driver. It is not all about if your child has childcare and does not miss an hour or two of instruction. If the teacher is injured then she cannot fulfill her duty at work. Duh!

Are you under the impression car accidents only happen when there's snow?

That email was bs and made me way more mad. He has a lot of nerve congratulating himself on how well today went and minimizing the crappy mornings a lot of people had and somehow giving himself a pass for Tuesday AGAIN? He needs to stop with these emails.

If the system sent out an email saying guns are to be expected and we all need to be more patient then I would have more to say. Yeah guns in this country are totally insane and it’s terrible that we have to worry about this but 1) I didn’t know that happened because it was not my kids school and 2) it seems a lot harder to fix than just making the same types of call that MCPS has for years.

He ain't lying. That should be their motto: MCPS. We have issues every morning.

Message absolutely downplaying everything. I heard of a teacher who had an accident on slippery roads at our school and I also experienced poor conditions on the roads as my kids don't have bus service. Many late buses it appeared too. The tone definitely was not welcomed. No apologies this time!

Yes “you heard” of so many scary terrible things that happens to a teacher but nothing is in the news about this.

McPS has nothing to apologize for this time. Sorry that teachers didn’t get to sleep in this morning. Welcome to the world the rest of us inhabit where we don’t get a snow day when it rains.

Right. Because you have the option to work remote.

There was no minimizing this morning. The morning went well. You just don't want to admit it because it means we're going to stay open next time.

You haven't been paying attention to the last year. Feds can't telework anymore.

i think the better question for today is why are there over 50 pages worth of complaints?

Because there were a few teachers and a SAHM that were really mad to have to put on clothes.
