Billionaire heiress abducted during her Friday morning run in Memphis

The command center seems to suggest this may be bigger than just Eliza, no?

Yep.

People blame the victim and say the crime could have been prevented if they had taken various steps, because they they can tell themselves, "I will never be randomly attacked because I don't run early in the morning." Just like when a woman is attacked in the evening in a parking lot, they say, "I will never be attacked because I don't go to that mall or wear an outfit like that, etc. etc."

Statistically, women are far more likely to be sexually assaulted and murdered by a person known to them--a partner, family member, or friend--than by a random attacked. But by focus on stranger attacks and the choices a woman could make to prevent that attack, people can feel safer. A woman can choose to wear long skirts and sleeves and refuse to go out without a male chaperone, and still end up attacked.

Women make varying choices about their activity and the choices they make do not cause them to deserve death.

Sure, anything can happen to anyone at any time. But are you trying to say a woman alone on the streets, in the wee hours of dark night/morning, in a high crime area is not more at risk than say, a woman out shopping at 3pm with her family in Bethesda?

You live in a denial bubble. I was kidnapped + assaulted by 2 dudes in broad daylight by strangers walking down a busy street. No one stopped to help. Stop blaming the victim. You are gross.

Can you do an AMA if you're up for it?

You may ask here. I won't start a separate thread because it may be triggering to see the title for those who have had similar experiences.

So sorry for your experience. We're the perpetrators caught and brought to justice?

Yes they were but I had to spend months in court because one was a juvenile + 1 an adult.

NP. I’m so sorry, PP. That is awful. I hope you’re doing okay now.

Thank you. It is horrible anytime one of these terrible abductions hit the news + people blame the victims (like this case) instead of the violent criminals (almost always male).

Violent criminals should be kept in prison. Until that happens, the rest of us have to try to take as many safety precautions as possible for ourselves and our families.

At 5:07 pm, officers in the 1600 block of Victor located a deceased party. The identity of this person and the cause of death is unconfirmed at this time. The investigation is ongoing.

Once additional information is available, we will provide an update.

What a terrible thing to happen to this young mom.

53 pages of speculation and trashing a part of the country so far removed from the DC Metro. Mind boggling!

Specific to Memphis, they don’t even arrest suspects for at least half of the 300 plus homicides each year. Lots of psychopaths roaming the streets in that town.

Awful. Could something have been done to steer Cleotha Abston in another direction? Obviously the 20 years in prison didn't rehabilitate him. Juvenile crime record dating back to age 12, charged as an adult with a violent crime at age 16, spends 20 years in prison, picks up where he left off, despite having a job and somewhere to live.

Sounds like this individual and his crime committing family should've stayed locked up. Instead, they were free to wreak havoc on law abiding citizens.

Had he been made to serve his full sentence he would have still been in prison for another eleven years. Thank the judge, prosecutor and parole board.

Her family should sue all of them if something has happened to her. So tired of these POS criminals being given second chances.

More officers and resources continue arriving on scene hours after the body was found. Wonder if they’re combing the area for other missing persons.

Recall that some prisons were releasing more prisoners due to COVID and crowding. I wonder if that played a role here, as he was released in 2020.

Safe bet the original judges and prosecutors 20 years ago are all retired in Florida enjoying fat pensions and golfing all day.
