It's interesting how these Trumpsters run away with their tails between their legs when anyone asks why Mexico isn't paying or why the GOP didn't get it done in the two years they had complete power. All hot air, just like their orange balloon. |
Haven't your left-wing sources explained that to you? It takes 60 votes in the Senate. |
60 votes in the Senate. |
Democrats offered Trump $25 billion for the wall in exchange for DACA. First he accepted, then he reneged. Most Americans favor DACA. Seemed like a good deal for him. Why did he change his mind? His base doesn't like DACA, that's why. He also has money for border security which he hasn't spent. Which shows it's all about "wins" not securing the border. He doesn't care if the wall is built or not, and neither does his base. It's just about the "win." |
What rock have you been living under that you don't know about the nuclear option?
|
"Art of the Deal." Which he had made but reneged on. |
Simple majority if they wanted. |
I am betting you weren't even alive during the Reagan years. Walls do work. Statistics bear that out. And, as far as Reagan:

Nope. Not wise for the future. Harry Reid learned that the hard way. |
Reid got what he wanted when he was in charge, McConnell gets what he wants now, by removing the filibuster for SC justices. The filibuster is on the ropes and will eventually be gone. Which party will kill it? Doesn't matter, the other side will scream and eventually get revenge. |
Exactly. The GOP pulled the nuclear option when they really wanted something -- namely, to eliminate the exception for Supreme Court nominees and get Gorsuch rammed through. They could pull it for legislation if they wanted Trump even flagged it specifically as what he was telling them to do. So … do they not really want the wall? |
Quoting Michael Reagan is worthless. Reagan's other son, Ron, is a well known liberal, so they cancel each other out. Bush II got the current border fence that you guys are so happy.about. Democrats weren't big on it, but they worked it out. Bush II, crappy as he was, was a far better negotiator than Mr. Art of the Deal. |
Dems are also taking the long view about what's best for all concerned (i.e., the country) by holding Trump to the fire right now. And the irony is, the hoist is by his own petard -- he set this up, said he could get someone else to pay for it, then said he could find the money elsewhere without the Dems, then said he was "proud" to shut down the government OVER THIs, and he would take full responsibility. Okay. There it is. And he is melting down all over the place, just in time to be held further accountable when Dems (and subpoena power for additional information) come into charge of the House, and when it sounds like the Mueller report is coming due fairly soon. He is unfit. He does not need to be emboldened. If the GOP disagrees, they have an option to stop this shutdown (and his panicky rages) right now -- nuclear option. But I think they want to cede responsibility for what has to happen to the Dems, not take responsibility for stopping it. |
I am old enough to remember when there was a during the last shutdown on the table for Trump's wall, and Trump rejected it. So, what excuse would you like to use now? |
Trump is definitely not a master negotiator. He’s actually really bad at his job. The only part of his agenda he got done was the tax cut and that’s because Paul Ryan wanted it. Other than that, Trump could t get his agenda passed with a friendly Congress. He’s the worst President at making compromises and getting his platform through in my lifetime. By this point in his Presidency, Obama had the ACA passed. He’s a lot worse than Obama at running the government and you know he must really hate that fact. The wall was his big thing. Other than the wall “Hillary for jail” was basically his only other campaign promise. |
