What evidence? https://www.nationalgeographic.com/magazine/2018/04/race-genetics-science-africa/ “It's been used to define and separate people for millennia. But the concept of race is not grounded in genetics.” https://www.scientificamerican.com/article/race-is-a-social-construct-scientists-argue/ “"What the study of complete genomes from different parts of the world has shown is that even between Africa and Europe, for example, there is not a single absolute genetic difference, meaning no single variant where all Africans have one variant and all Europeans another one, even when recent migration is disregarded,"” |
The above is not a complete quote and therefore is misleading. It further says: "It is all a question of differences in how frequent different variants are on different continents and in different regions." That is, a race of people is a population that have more frequent common variations when compared to a race of different people. Saying that individuals may have genetics that do not conform to genetic characteristics of the larger population is trying to use anecdotes to disprove a general observation. This is anti-scientific. We all agree that we do not judge individuals based on the race that they belong to. This is why our political policies should not consider the race of a person. But it would be non-scientific to ignore the dissimilarities in genetics between different races when measured across the population. When a doctor screens someone for diseases that have a potential genetic cause that is correlated to a race, that doctor is right to pay extra attention to those potential diseases rather than discounting the race of the individual altogether. |
Do you mean like the fact that most blacks in America have European DNA? As a matter of fact, the average is about 24% European DNA. https://splinternews.com/if-you-re-black-dna-ancestry-results-can-reveal-an-awk-1793862284 |
Try that with certain medications, you get lethal results. The last quote is erroneous. Sub Saharan Africans don't have any neanderthal and denisovian DNA admixture. Caucasians and Asians both have neanderthal admixture. |
Which also means 76% not European dna.... Which means they can differiatiate....racial composition. |

“Ultimately, there is so much ambiguity between the races, and so much variation within them, that two people of European descent may be more genetically similar to an Asian person than they are to each other ” “In a clinical setting, for instance, scientists would say that diseases such as sickle-cell anemia and cystic fibrosis are common in those of “sub-Saharan African” or “Northern European” descent, respectively, rather than in those who are “black” or “white”.” “ The advances in human genetics and the evidence of negligible differences between races might be expected to halt racist arguments. But, in fact, genetics has been used to further racist and ethnocentric arguments—as in the case of the alt-right, which promotes far-right ideologies, including white nationalism and anti-Semitism.” |
+1 OP’s argument really only supports excluding wealthy minorities from benefiting from affirmative action. Please present some evidence showing that poor URMs are similarly situated to poor white children. Numerous reasons to suggest that is not the case: - https://www.epi.org/publication/poor-black-children-are-much-more-likely-to-attend-high-poverty-schools-than-poor-white-children/ Also how do you account for the fact that someone could be a legacy based on a relative attending a school that at that time only admitted whites? I’m just curious as to why the argument that something should not benefitt wealthy POCs doesn’t mean it shouldn’t be limited to poor POCs? |
What should any policy set to assist poor Americans be limited to helping only poor black Americans? That's about as racist as you can get! What's next.....food stamps for low-income, but only if you're black? Whites can go hungry. |
OP. I have asked before and I ask again. Why are you so focused on race-based decisions that colleges make but not other factors (athletics, musical achievement, legacy, geographic diversity, etc). Why is only one of the factors that colleges are allowed to consider in creating their class a problem for you? Why do you believe your “White kid’s slot” is taken over by an underachieving black child of a two doctor family rather than his next door neighbor who happens to be a white double legacy? |
You are so full of condescension and false scenarios (what's this with "my white kid's slot? my white kid is at Columbia, doing graduate work), AND I have answered you repeatedly, that you don't get another response. Plus, are you the horrible person that called me a racist POS for suggesting a race-neutral policy (which would still disproportionately benefit blacks) OR the one who called low-income whites "white trash" OR the one who said white Billy with the excellent grades should go to community college so that a black kid with mediocre grades gets pushed into university? Just curious. Are you any of those posters? |
No, I am not any of those posters. I have asked before why this is the piece of a confusing and somewhat arbitrary college selection scheme you are focusing on. All of it capricious and arbitrary and “not fair”. BTW, I am an asian American mother of two standout kids one of whom is in competition for one of those top schools based on her stats. I know fully well that my kid has reduced opportunities at one of those slots compared to a UMC black kid who spent their life following much of the same path as my kid. I also know that she has reduced opportunities compared with her friend with lower stats but who took up an expensive and esoteric sport. She also has lower chances than her classmate whose parents met at and graduated from a top Ivy even though her raw scores are slightly better. I also sometimes think that if we had followed one of our job opportunities and lives in a state where the completions wasn’t so tough, she might be in a better spot. But on the whole, I am glad we are raising our kids where we are and I like my heritage. None of it matters. Her chances were never great anyway given the large choices these schools have to shape their class any way they want. Getting annoyed by the UMC black kid (who is delightful) is a waste of time. |

OP will never answer because she can’t face the truth of why she’s focusing on just the black kids.

“Ball of Collusion” |
Given what happens in HK, it is quite understandable. |
| Too bad. Hong Kong before it was turned over was a wonderful place. A real mixture of cultures, but, heavily Chinese, of course. Beautiful. |
