This sounds in line with what Politico is reporting:

They are talking about extending the CR in that article... but that would mean that Johnson has to call the House back into session.
.

Wouldn’t the logistics of calling the House back this week be pretty iffy with such short notice?

November 6 will be 36 day shutdown so beat his record.

I very much want this thing to be over, but I think the 6th -for us to be back at work - is very optimistic. That means they would have to pass the clean CR and have Trump sign it tomorrow. I don't think Democrats are going to agree to that before they see election results.

If Democrats sweep in VA and NJ tomorrow I don't see the Dems agreeing to the clean CR.

The 6th is this Thursday. The Senate has until Wednesday to pass the bill and Trump can do that Wednesday evening. This is an optimistic timeline but it is doable.

Yeah, the one person I don't see mentioned in that article is Trump. I don't think Trump is going to agree to this - not at this point anyway. I don't know who the Trump whisperer is in or for Congress these days, but I don't think they've gotten to Trump yet.

Why? So they’d pass the same thing they’ve voted against for over a month on Wednesday? Because they aren’t voting on it tomorrow according to the calendar.

I don’t recall how this works- say they pass it at 11pm and Trump signs it at midnight, are we expected to be in for opening that morning? Because I’m in bed before that and am not in the habit of getting up early enough to check the news and get to work by my TOD start at this point in time.

If that happens, there should be enough indications in the news Wednesday that you can plan to go in, set your phone alarm to your work wakeup time, and just check for confirmation in the morning.

It's annoying but this administration isn't being lenient on anything, so be prepared.

I hate all of this so much. I just want to be working, this limbo is a nightmare. I also have scheduled leave for Friday, so that’s fun.

Pretty much all the polls suggest the democrats are going to sweep all of the key most -watched races in the
Tuesday elections. I’m unclear how we go from that momentum to them coming into the Senate on Wednesday morning and a sufficient number promptly capitulating to voting for the same Republican sponsored bill they’ve been voting against for a month with zero modifications (which is the only way we could feasibly reopen by Thursday)

So what if you don’t go in the day government is opened? What if you get there late? Will you be fired? Can you take leave?

Easy. Dems will have their 15-min of fame Wed for their victory lap then pass the CR to get people fed and paid, and then put pressure on GOP to negotiate in good faith and not play another shutdown game of chicken after 11/21.

or so i hope

I agree. I think those bets of Nov. 16th seems fairly accurate.

Trying to keep this the non-political thread, but as a furloughed fed, I'm changing this week's to do list based on the idea that they will capitulate. Hope to be wrong because then this whole mess would be for nothing.

Politico reported that Thune hopes Senate will pass a bill with a longer deadline than Nov 21 this week and that the House would vote on it early next week.
