Mom Buying Too Many Clothes For My Kid...Am I Overreacting?

It's ridiculous to see her coming through the door with trashbags full of new clothes and dry-clean only coats for baby.[/quote

Clothes WERE a lot more expensive relative to income before they were off-shored. So were toys.

Why do you let your mother dictate what comes in your house. Why do you let her take away the joy of you buying firsts for your kid? Why do you let her guilt you?

Shut that shit down and grow up. I’ve never seen a forum with so many adults unable to stand up for themselves!

Ummm...We have all mentioned that we have, but our parents still don't listen. Thanks for being so understanding and empathetic! (Sarcasm intended)

GTFOH, mentioning it once doesn’t cut it. Be firm, and dont accept the gifts, it’s not that hard. You all are babies and afraid of hurting your parents feelings f meanwhile they stomp all over yours.

I brought it up, but she never followed up with me. She said she wants to help us pay for our kids' college, but I guess she's waiting for us to actually get a tuition bill. I don't think she knows what a 529 is. My mother is difficult, so there is only so much I want to converse with her.

There is no dopamine hit from electronically transferring $5 to a 529. But finding a flippy sequin tee/short set for $4.27? High upon purchase and then a new one when the kid opens it.

I think my mother is drinking the same kool aid that yours is drinking. Same problem.

The PP is right that once your DC hits middle school, she will stop and become more uninterested. I have a middle school kid and an elementary school kid.

My mother gets upset when I donate the clothes after they have been outgrown too. I try to explain that children grow and she somehow finds this a personal affront.

No ideas to help, OP, just empathy!

This is an anonymous online forum. You don't know what people's circumstances are, and as such, really shouldn't be commenting with this insensitive bs.

Exactly it’s a forum and everyone is allowed to have an opinion. You must be a doormat too.

Eww, what a snob. I assure you there are plenty of parents of kids not as fortunate as you who would love to have those brand new Kohls clothes.

+1 My kids wear Kohl’s and Target clothing and it never occurred to me not to donate them if they were still in good shape. Most of my clothing is from those stores too, and a lot of it has lasted years. PP - that’s snobbery.
