The vaccines are not a cure. They are to reduce the impact on you. Food sales are not an issue. Kids next to each other unmasked is especially for large teams. Not all adults are fully vaccinate. |
Using your logic of vaccines aren’t a cure but are only to reduce the impact on you, there should then be restrictions on everything during the fall and winter when other non lethal illnesses are at their peak, but of course there aren’t. The science is pretty clear that outdoor transmission is very difficult. No less than Dr. Leana Wen says that her child has unmasked outdoor play dates. But sure if MCSL wants to have the theater of making kids wear masks outside, have at it. How does that at all impact allowing adult spectators? Meets do not start for another month. All adults were eligible to start getting the vaccine the first week of April, so all adults that wanted a vaccine when they became available will be fully vaccinated by mid June. If you for some reason aren’t, then feel free not to attend. |
Lol I’m guessing you aren’t actually a part of this area’s swim culture. There are plenty of kids under 12 that are year round swimmers. There have not been outbreaks linked to swim practice or meets, which were held indoors during the worst of Covid times. Please stop fear-mongering or just don’t have your child participate this summer. |
| will some of you stop using facts in here...we don't want the MCSL Board to feel like they are being bullied when you throw facts at them. |
Yes, we are. We have 1-2 kids per lane and the only meets are in VA for entitled parents and kids. With no restrictions it’s a huge risk for kids. You may not care but some of us do. |
We are talking about teams that have 200 or more kids plus families. You may be irresponsible but not all of us are and your choices are why some of us feel it’s unsafe. No masks, unvaccinated kids in close proximity, right, what possibly could go wrong. |
| what could go wrong? the science with regards to outdoor transmissions says...not much. |
The CDC disagrees with you here though. I don’t have an issue with MCSL doing the theater of kids being masked outdoors. I think it’s ridiculous but I’ll go along with it to pacify people like you. But there is nothing to suggest that allowing vaccinated adults to be spectators is going to create some type of superspreader event. This is an issue with your personal comfort level after a year of living in fear, and while I don’t blame you, my life and my kids’ lives no longer have to be governed by your fear. |
So isn’t the answer just to not have your kid participate then? Or you don’t want to have to explain to your kid why Joey is doing swim team this summer while you are making him sit at home? If so, that’s a you problem, not a problem for larger community. |
outdoors at a swim meet? Very very little. Its not 'irresponsible' to follow CDC guidance and want our children to have a normal summer. Indeed, at this point I think the people crying that it is 'to soon' or the ones being irresponsible- irresponsible about the major costs of all the precautions that are just theater and have no benefit. |
Masks make a difference and are required for unvaccinated people. Most teens will not be fully vaccinated by the start nor kids under 12. They deserve protection. |
My child understands what is at risk and no meets this year. We were going to do one camp but with no masks we are pulling out. |
You have the right to make whatever choices you want for your family, but masking outdoors is not something unvaccinated people need to do per medical professionals. |
Given how close the kids get, yes it is necessary. Spread out, no but that’s not what happens at these things. |

Sadly, we pulled our 3 kids out this Summer. They were A meet/summer swimmers, one in his final year. Heck, I ref,d for 4 of those Summers to support our neighborhood. The kids did it for fun (team sport athletes the rest of the year) and to be apart of the community, but that was taken away. The fun of it. The competition. The team atmosphere around meets.
Thanks MCSL. Like most governing bodies, you are out of touch and suck at your jobs. |
