Can we petition against this B.S.? Early in the season most 12+ will be fully vaccinated, along with coaches and parents. Enough of this! Let’s not let them ruin another summer
Most summer swim kids are under age 12. Most year round kids are the older kids and they continue to swim with their year round team. Its sad how parents are so entitled they cannot put the younger kids safety first. And, 12 and up are just allowed to be vaccinated so they will not be fully vaccinated by the time swim season starts.
Please explain how having vaccinated adult spectators puts unvaccinated children at risk OUTDOORS. Please explain how having food sales outdoors puts unvaccinated children at risk. FWIW I have two children under 12 who will be swimming. Neither of them would do a swim meet if my wife or I weren’t there helping them - remember, once the swimmers enter the swim area they cannot leave. I’m sure there are tons of parents with 8 and under swimmers in the same boat. I have no problem with individual pools having stricter rules than the county if that’s what their Board/HOA dictates. But having a one size fits all approach is nuts.
The vaccines are not a cure. They are to reduce the impact on you. Food sales are not an issue. Kids next to each other unmasked is especially for large teams. Not all adults are fully vaccinate.
Using your logic of vaccines aren’t a cure but are only to reduce the impact on you, there should then be restrictions on everything during the fall and winter when other non lethal illnesses are at their peak, but of course there aren’t. The science is pretty clear that outdoor transmission is very difficult. No less than Dr. Leana Wen says that her child has unmasked outdoor play dates. But sure if MCSL wants to have the theater of making kids wear masks outside, have at it. How does that at all impact allowing adult spectators? Meets do not start for another month. All adults were eligible to start getting the vaccine the first week of April, so all adults that wanted a vaccine when they became available will be fully vaccinated by mid June. If you for some reason aren’t, then feel free not to attend.
We are talking about teams that have 200 or more kids plus families. You may be irresponsible but not all of us are and your choices are why some of us feel it’s unsafe. No masks, unvaccinated kids in close proximity, right, what possibly could go wrong.
outdoors at a swim meet? Very very little. Its not 'irresponsible' to follow CDC guidance and want our children to have a normal summer. Indeed, at this point I think the people crying that it is 'to soon' or the ones being irresponsible- irresponsible about the major costs of all the precautions that are just theater and have no benefit.
Masks make a difference and are required for unvaccinated people. Most teens will not be fully vaccinated by the start nor kids under 12. They deserve protection.
You have the right to make whatever choices you want for your family, but masking outdoors is not something unvaccinated people need to do per medical professionals.
Given how close the kids get, yes it is necessary. Spread out, no but that’s not what happens at these things.
