MCSL is making Marc Elrich look like Ron Desantis

So MCSL has published some pretty restrictive guidelines for meets. Although they were reasonable given the rules at the time, the recent FAQ they sent to team reps is unhinged from reality. Some examples:

- They do not plan to change their rules even if MoCo hits their vaccination thresholds and relaxes their limits. These meet rules prohibit spectators and severely limit the number of volunteers, among other restrictions. Based on current vaccination numbers there should be no county specific rules by the first A meet.

- Their rules only “allow” food sales in the parking lot, BUT once an athlete or volunteer/coach enters the pool area they cannot leave (e.g. to buy food/drinks) until the end of the meet. Reentry is prohibited.

Summer swimming is supposed to be fun, but MCSL appears to be determined to prevent any fun from being had. WTF?

I really don’t want to be one of THOSE parents but I’m finding it hard not to…

I agree with you and would love ideas on how to push back. It’s ridiculous that we can’t relax restrictions when they are relaxed at the state or county level.

I disagree. In many cases, spectators (unruly parents) are the biggest problem at the meets.

snaps for the best subject title ever seen on dcurbanmom lol

note: there have been ZERO cases linked with swimming meets (all cases stemming from swimming have had to do with collegiate athletes and partying, not with competition or practice) Elrich is an uneducated despot and the league needs to rethink what is in the best interest of the kids

Definitely agree on the last part, but that kind of behavior is unacceptable regardless of covid yet the mere threat of it doesn’t cause us to prohibit all spectators.

Good, most kids will not be vaccinated and I'm tired of adults being selfish as they are vaccinated and not caring about everyone else. Don't like it, don't participate.

How would we know when we don't have mandatory testing?

If you are that concerned why are you participating? The Covid risk is with the unvaccinated kids participating and hanging out together, not vaccinated adults attending meets. I am not understanding how vaccinated adults attending meets being what puts your risk assessment over the top.

Contact tracing, DUH

If the county guidelines permit based on CDC guidelines then why is MCSL taking more stringent steps. MoCo is cautious enough.

I think MCSL is being ridiculous and tiresome.

Can they change the rules before the pools open? Or is this it now for the summer?

They don’t want to do anymore work and they made it clear, along with the fact that they know better than the county level officials who are allowing reopening. Notice how there was no vote on this issue, which is strange because there was a vote on another big decision about 2 weeks ago but the board doesn’t need team input apparently on minor decisions like this
