This could've happened pre-covid, too. Kids get out of school in the afternoon. I was a latchkey kid, and I could've easily caused trouble after school. But I didn't.

Lack of opportunity and inequality are issues that should be addressed, certainly, but they are not excuses for criminal behavior. There are plenty of people who face inequality and lack of opportunity but don't kill people while trying to steal their cars.

So basically you are paying lip service to inequality, but when rubber hits the road, you are going to ignore it and throw the book at two young teens who almost certainly haven't gotten a single break in life and will have any chance at a decent future disappear with a jail sentence that will only harden them further.

Not immediately. They should serve some period of time in a confined setting, partly for punishment but more importantly for intensive counseling, education, and other efforts to try to give them a fighg chance to salvage something of their lives.

And you realize that since they are being charged as juveniles you have pretty much described the max they can get?

DP..they need to serve time and after that, they need to be under police watch and check ins until 25 years old. Mandatory schooling with good behavior and no skipping school.

They had a weapon. A man died. A hardworking father and grandfather who recently immigrated here. Do you not care? For those reading this post who DO care, there's a go fund me for him to help pay for his unexpected funeral.

I'd be willing to contribute to that cause. That will help the family and do some actual good. Punishing these girls won't.

Locking up sociopaths for the rest of their lives does a great deal of good.
