Tow teachers at our school in Los Angeles took their full maternity leave, plus the extra California family leave, and then the week before they were meant to come back, they took a leave of absence. Fine if they don’t want to come back, but they could have told us in July, so we could have had a full year substitute instead of just randos every few months. It was selfish. |
It was legal and they deserve their maternity and family leave like anyone else. The timing is quite unfortunate and frustrating though. I imagine if they weren’t teachers the optics would be different. |
x1000 I am glad they took all the leave they deserved. They didn't cave to pressure and they did what was best for them and their family. Brava! |
If they're vaccinated, it's safe to come back
They just have bad character |
It’s a child card issue, for many. |
+1 There are a few teachers in my group taking leave due to childcare |
I thought the window to take LOA without penalty closed months ago. No? Are they essentially quitting? |
I think that was FCPS |
No o, they're hoping that the penalty for taking LOA outside the window will be waived because it's a pandemic. They're probably right. |
So up until now, they've been teaching from home with young children at home, either teaching while parenting and half-assing it or teaching and letting their kids run wild (this is what the teacher's kids are doing in my kids' classes). IOW, it's been a childcare issue the entire school year but up until now they've gotten away with it... |
No, since their vaccines aren't a door prize for babysitting your kids. But you already knew that. |
Two parent household with one parent going back to the office, is a possibility. Your life will be less uncomfortable when you don’t always assume the worst of others. |
You sound like a troll. And, most teachers I know have been unable to get a vaccine yet. Where are these places where teachers already have vaccines? |
I'm confused. All year parents on DCUM have been frothing at the mouth screaming IF YOU WON'T GO BACK IN PERSON THEN QUIT! OMG! A TOTALLY UNQUALIFIED WARM BODY IN PERSON IS BETTER THAN AN EXPERIENCED REMOTE TEACHER. DCUM parents now: OMG What do you MEAAAAN you're quitting?!?!? |
Just like my dh's coworkers are "getting away with it" because their spouses have to go in and work as healthcare workers. ![]() Most of these are men btw, so they are probably allowed to "get away with it." |
