Did they get a vaccine before giving notice?

We need teachers vaccinated. We need virtual teachers vaccinated. We need hybrid teachers vaccinated. We need teachers returning at a later date vaccinated.
If you're taking a leave of absence, then you're not an active teacher. Those individuals can get in line with their same aged cohort. They shouldn't jump in front of high risk seniors.

That’s not how vaccination allocation works. if someone could give up their shot and we know that it would go to a senior I think many of us would make that choice. But it’s not set up that way. You can be upset about it, many of us are, many of us feel shame about it but it doesn’t change the way the system is set up. We go in the order that were called. And that’s just going to have to be good enough.
Actually, that is how it's working. Arlington prioritized healthcare workers, then teachers and then opened it up to seniors. If someone who doesn't intend to teach takes a vaccine, they are literally taking it from the pool that would go to a senior. The system in no way forces someone who doesn't intent to keep teaching to receive a vaccine now. They can register through the state like everyone else and wait.

If someone says they’re not going to take the vaccine because they want another person to take it, it doesn’t automatically go to that person. So you can have your self righteous anger but it doesn’t change what’s happening.
Nice ethics. Did you work in the Trump administration too?

That makes zero sense. We need our population vaccinated. I’m a healthcare worker and I received my vaccination through my employer. If I could’ve said please get this to my mother or so and so is auntie instead I sure as hell would half. But I couldn’t do that. So I took the vaccination so I can continue to contribute and I pray that my mother will get through for her own appointment soon.
As a community, we've set up an order of priority based on certain values. It's not a free for all. Pretending to be a teacher to jump in line without intending to continue to teach and contribute to the community is dishonest. Just because you can't give your dose to a particular senior, doesn't mean that it wouldn't go to a senior. They're next on the priority list.

This this this. The teacher talking about self righteous anger acher can spin it all he/she wants, but it's pure selfishness and dishonesty. I am also willing to bet that poster is the type of teacher that will continue to teach virtually after getting the vaccine, because s/he justifies it in her/his mind. Very Trumpian and a sure role model for the students.

I said this in another thread but you need to listen to the nurse. A hot in the arm is better than a shot in the trash. ALL ADULTS need a vaccine. A teacher with a health condition should get it. Am in person teacher should and so should a virtual. Why? Because the way the system set up priorities, it’s their turn. Declining it now only to wait makes NO sense. It doesn’t go to some elderly person instead. It just means they’re unnecessarily waiting longer to be vaccinated.

Herd immunity helps ALL of us. The sooner most of us are vaccinated the sooner we get back to real living. Taking a weird moralistic stand of declining a shot reserved for them now ONLY because they’re not returning in person doesn’t actually help anyone. There are enough vaccines for everyone in this country. Distribution has been an issue, but we have enough. If any of you have an opportunity to get a vaccine “out of turn” through a hookup or contact or your job you better take it. It makes everyone safer in the long run. Stop getting hung up on petty teacher hate and see the big picture. A teacher with a health condition serious enough to stay DL has every need of a vaccine - they’re vulnerable!

+1 Well said.

Shots aren’t going in the trash. Teachers working from home or quitting are telling themselves this lie??? How absurd. You are an embarrassment.

No, you are. Because you’re small minded. Yes, shots go in the trash. Once they’re taken out of refrigeration they cannot go back in. This is why people are showing up at hospitals and administration sites and getting the leftovers if people don’t show up for their appointment. Furthermore , I’m a teacher who works in the buildings and am happy to be there. You simply can’t see anything other than your blind hate of teachers working at home so you assume my entire argument is invalid because it goes against your narrative and that if I go against your narrative I’m one of those teachers at home you hate. But I have more skin in the game than you as I actually do teach in the buildings. Grow up and think outside of yourself.

So irrational to get fixated on this non-issue. Get help.

What school system is this in?

Every employee has the option to leave their job and find a new one (or not). Nobody is an indentured servant. Geez.

Correct. A leave without absence means you don’t get paid. Anyone in any field who can afford not to get paid or can find another job is free to leave. Teachers, doctors, store clerks, feds- anyone.

This isn't happening!!! teacher appointments are all scheduled. No Inova vaccines are going in the trash.

TEACHERS ARENT THE ONLY ONES GETTING VACCINATED. If vaccines are TAKEN OUT, they have to be used that day. You cannot re refrigerate them . So AT ALL PLACES. If there are leftovers at the end of the day, anyone can try to get one if they’re there and waiting. Stop bean counting who gets a goddamn vaccine we ALL need for herd immunity.

x1000 These days it is hard to tell if someone is just being a putz or if the person is truly OCD and cannot help themselves. However, it is annoying that the PP above you is willfully and purposefully denying the facts. Yes, vaccine doses are in danger of being thrown out each day that is why there is such a huge push in some communities to get people on the walk-in and last-minute lists.

My guess is that Pp is stuck in her weird paranoid “teachers are stealing vaccines to work at home” silo because it is well known and published that this happens. https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.nbcnews.com/news/amp/ncna1254364

Quit shaming people for getting vaccines. That is literally the entire point of them existing. We need as many people worldwide to get them as possible.

If you're talking about things we need, we need for teachers not to quit in March. Vaccinated or unvaccinated. But we don't get what we need, do we?

I'm confused. All year parents on DCUM have been frothing at the mouth screaming IF YOU WON'T GO BACK IN PERSON THEN QUIT! OMG! A TOTALLY UNQUALIFIED WARM BODY IN PERSON IS BETTER THAN AN EXPERIENCED REMOTE TEACHER.

DCUM parents now: OMG What do you MEAAAAN you're quitting?!?!?

Exactly. They're getting what they wanted. Too bad so sad. Not.

No, I'm glad that teachers who don't want to teach are quitting. Sorry "taking leave". They should have done that before getting the vaccine. But at least they've finally gotten around to quitting, which they should have done earlier.

Yes! If my kid ends up with the crappiest teachers because the good ones all left that will really show those dang teachers.

These are the good teachers? lol

Our poor kids. The good teachers are bad and the bad teachers are terrible. Teacher supporters are the worst!

I’ve been told I’m pretty good and was even shown screenshots from a parent fb group about how engaging I am and how I provide appropriate levels of screen time. But comments like yours are why I don’t think I want to teach next year. Thanks for helping me make my decision.

They’re losers, ignore them. People who say stuff like that can’t be taken seriously. It’s tantruming. If all teachers were really bad they wouldn’t be trying so hard for their kids to be with us 40 hours a week and claiming without us they aren’t learning.

+1 Even the worst teacher has to be better than any of them. I mean, they can't handle their own kids. What does that say about them? Not much.
