Should coaches be getting vaccinated ahead of essential employees?

Anonymous
The vaccine is currently available for the following groups:

1a: Healthcare Workers and Long-Term Care Residents

1b: Frontline Essential Workers, Persons Aged 65 years and Older, People Living in Correctional Facilities, Homeless Shelters and Migrant Labor Camps, and Persons Aged 16-64 years with a high-risk medical condition or disability that increases their risk of severe illness from COVID-19.

That is it. Please do not cut the line.

Virginia’s Phase 1b includes frontline essential workers, people aged 65 years and older, people living in correctional facilities, homeless shelters, and migrant labor camps, and people aged 16-64 years with a high-risk medical condition or disability that increases their risk of severe illness from COVID-19.

Workers who are in sectors essential to the functioning of society, are at substantially higher risk of exposure to SARS-CoV-2, and cannot work remotely. Frontline Essential Workers include:

Police, Fire, and Hazmat
Corrections and homeless shelter workers
Childcare/Pre K-12 Teachers/Staff (Public and Private)
Food and Agriculture (including veterinarians)
Manufacturing
Grocery store workers
Public transit workers
Mail carriers (USPS and private)
Officials needed to maintain continuity of government

The assumption is also that soccer coach is the primary and full time job.

In many parts of the country, skipping the line is a no go.

Not in Alexandria. We vaccinate soccer coaches ahead of higher risk individuals. What’s a couple more needless deaths? The community is the last concern of ASA.

They are in a high risk because they deal with kids just like teachers do.

The other problem with your logic is you feel that the coaches are actually getting the shots at the expense of other people. Group 1a, medical staff have been vaccinated and now the second group is being worked on.

Relax.

I’m teaching my at home kids; therefore, I’m a teacher. (this is Alexandria soccer coach logic in play) Where’s my shot? Relax, really? Such arrogance and disdain for your neighbors. And yes, they are jumping the line of more needy and more essential people. There should be fines.

That SOME coaches have been vaccinated is not proof that ALL coaches are being vaccinated or that teachers or other people in 1B are not getting vaccinated.

Yes, relax.

OK, and I'm driving my car, so I am involved in public transportation. The question is whether a worker is around other members of the public outside their household on a frequent basis. Are coaches part of this? Yes, more so than public school teachers right now. Please tell us where your children play so I can follow the rants when you warn them not to get vaccinated Absolutely incredible. As I said, I would be extremely upset if my kid's coaches actually went out of their way not to get vaccinated. What on earth is your problem.

Coaches are around kids much more than teachers and will continue to be in the winter/spring. End of thread.

LOL, no. Apparently the Alexandria coaches see themselves as more essential than the ACPS teachers. Clowns. Hopefully the letters to city council are responded to..

ACPS teachers and Alexandria coaches were both given equal opportunity to receive the Moderna vaccine.

Geez, how do you know that the coach is not a type II diabetic? I am, and am relatively atheltic. If he's working with kids, he has a higher chance of contracting COVID than my 69 year old dad who rarely leaves the house for any reason.

Excuses and justifications? If the club can’t follow the rules for the safety of the community, one can only imagine all the other rules they’re justifying not following. Is the narcissism that prevalent in ASA?

Imagine thinking that getting a vaccine is somehow not thinking about the safety of the community.

Agreed. There's no point in talking to the PP, who is off their rocker just as much as the anti-maskers and is probably upset that people aren't making house calls to administer vaccines to her/him. It's all whine whine whine with some other axe to grind, along with therapy bills where they learn to use narcissism ad nauseam, or ad narcissiseam. This is apparently the hill she/he wants to die on, along with, presumably telling other people who come into more frequent in the public that they should not get vaccinated when it is their turn and social obligation to do so.

ASA on the boards - why don’t you go tweet out more pictures of your coaches getting vaccinated. By the way, it wasn’t your turn. Keep hoping that sins forgotten are sins forgiven. They’re not.

what if they coach HS Soccer so they qualify as a school employee and get it that way?
