Should coaches be getting vaccinated ahead of essential employees?

Wtf?!?!!! Coaches of optional kids’ sport, not even teachers!!

Not to mention I’m 50, a parent of 2 and can’t get vaccinated until the summer most likely.

I’m a teacher and coach. I’m 30. Take my spot. I’m not taking the vaccine.

WTF. Alexandria soccer is running childcare. Are they a daycare provider or a soccer club? Are they licensed? Where in gods name are they doing this? This sounds like a massive racket or liability.

They are protecting the kids of rich people. All you poor people who can’t afford to send your kids to public buildings to be watched by private organizations need to mind your place. This is Alexandria’s social justice program at work. Vaccinating the young ‘caregiving soccer coaches’ of rich people is a marquee part of their plan. But hey, the club is all about the community (if you can afford it).

I can't offer details, as my son is too old, but since it is held in Alexandria City school buildings, I assume it is licensed and insured.

Actually, the city of Alexandria offers a separate programs in schools for children of low-wage and essetial workers, and Campagna offers a similar program (with a sliding scale for those who need it). I have no idea about the vaccination status of the workers for those programs.

In Fairfax and Arlington currently you cannot get a vaccine unless you are in the priority groups. AND, they started cancelling priority group 1b (65 and over) because they ran out of vaccines. So, yes, it’s surprising to see people in the very, very lowest risk category taking priority over the highest risk category.

Coaches are in the same risk category as teachers currently and unlike teachers, coaches are not distance coaching.

As long as shots are getting used and not wasted it is progress.

The City of Alexandria has a large population of children below the poverty line. Alexandria Soccer has always had programs for these children. They do run a program which provides a safe space for these kids to come in and provide Internet access and a safe place to distance learn. They go into the school often to run programs at these schools. My mom got a vaccine through INOVA because she has been a volunteer at VA Hospital since she retired. I assume the coaches that were vaccinated were precisely because of their work in the schools/as volunteers. We have been at a few local Clubs and don't live in Alexandria, but I will say they do more for the 'community' than any other soccer Club in VA.

Are you referring to Alexandria coaches or private school teachers, because private school teachers match this description a lot better than soccer coachers

I like Alexandria, and my son plays for them, but this statement is a bit misleading. Alexandria Soccer does offer some scholarships for their child care program for kids whose parents are below the poverty line. However, the majority of kids in Alexandria Soccer's childcare program are full pay, and it is not cheap.

I agree that the club does a lot of nice things for the community through their rec soccer program, and offers nice soccer programs for kids below the poverty line.

Let me see if I understand this... Kids can’t go to school for a host of reasons, but private groups can use closed school buildings to make money by offering childcare to rich kids. Putting aside the ridiculous idea about soccer clubs magically being transformed into licensed, insured and qualified daycares, what local government sees this as a progressive solution to today’s challenges?

I think of "paid" coaches as the same as teachers. We pay them to teach our kids soccer. Therefore they should be part of the group included with teachers. Not volunteer parents but actually the professionals we pay to teach a subject ie soccer. Also think of it as a no brainer. they are working around your kids in a large group setting.

Lol no

Why would you get a vaccine anyways? Covid won’t kill you unless you’ve made a lot of bad choices or have really bad genes

I get that, and it is frustrating, given that ACPS has not enabled even children with very severe disabilities to come back for in-person instruction. But that is an issue with ACPS vs. Alexandria Soccer.

Is a private school teacher considered essential? private school is a choice. public school is available to all and is required to attend unless you can show proof of private or home instruction. Then that also opens up the can of worms about a home school parent being a teacher as well.
