Bowser asking Washingtonians to stay out of downtown Tues and Wed

Glad the MPD have not been defunded yet. They seem to be doing a great job... Again.

I work downtown and will work from home today and tomorrow. Streets are closed around my building, otherwise I’d go to my office.

Unarmed. Not so good.

Why would you waste time to 'confront' them?

A) don't you people have jobs?

B) why do you want to increase your risk for getting and or spreading the coronavirus?

They can huff and puff all tgeyu want like toddlers. Toddlers eventually wear themselves out.

Oh my god. I hate the “defunding” police language but the proposals themselves - to redirect money towards social services - would HELP the police do their job.

I once had an encounter with the police when my DH was deeply depressed and called 911 in a flash of sanity instead of killing himself. We had four police cars at our house, and were treated like criminals. He had to ride to the police station to see a cop “psychologist” in the back of a police car. They physically threatened us when I suggested we speak to his therapist on the phone instead. And we are white, well educated, and our home is worth over 1.3M in a nice neighborhood. I can only imagine what would have happened to us if we weren’t so privileged.

There should have been OTHER public resources available to us, and available to people in need. THAT’S what “defunding” the police is about.

Sad Sad times.

I put nothing past the sitting president's desperate attempts at holding power.

False. The orange man's term ends at noon on 1/20. It ends. The president-elect can be inaugurated anywhere.

There is no "declare martial law" in the constitution. There are specific applications for the Insurrection Act. And in any of such cases, presidential power changes on 1/20.

"What if we gave a war and nobody came?"

Let them have their cosplay with their props, then leave. They cant afford to stay in hotel rooms for long. I mean, come on, they clearly dont have jobs or they'd be at work on a Wednesday.

What? No. That's not how it works. The 20th amendment says that at noon on January 20, the president's and vice president's terms end, and the terms of their successors begin.

Yes, had we gone the Seattle path and defunded we would be crawling back right now with this same screaming but louder.. It is amazing how tunes change when it is the other guys potentially getting arrested. Glad to see our competent MPD (crowd control/civil disturbance) effectively handling this situation again.

This is the job for many people who would be the likely counter-protestors.

Was downtown this am. All quiet. Lots of police. MPD seems to be doing a great job.

There are a lot of families coming.

We know DC quite well. And we took days off work to come.

No sane person would bring their children to a proud boys riot.
