Are you asking about damage to property or damage to people? I think that the worry on Wednesday is about damage to people, which, in my opinion, outweighs damage to property. |
A few years ago it was only a dozen or so. Last time it was hundreds of them. How many Nazis is enough to provoke a reaction? |
Hmmm...I only see the same boards that have been up since summer. Why are we worried about human bodies being beat up? What track record do DC protestors have of beating people up. That is why we have the police. Have we defunded them already? Connecticut and Wisconsin Ave's seem to have taken their boards down. Let's see if they go up again tonight. |
If only . . . Why don't you head down there and let them know of the offer? You could even give some people a lift to your place while there. Or, if you don't have a car available to you (not likely if you are too far from downtown), if you made your offer known to homeless shelters and/or organizations that help the homeless, I am sure they would spread the word and probably help with transportation. Or you could talk an empty big game on the internet. |
Not all people protesting are the same. Proud Boys and their nationalist friends have a stated purpose and gang initiation that involves fighting. |
Ok, that's one who wouldn't. |
| I'm feeling a lot of "oh, just let them burn their cross, what's the harm?" energy from a bunch of people here. How many of you have BLM signs too? |
I'm not really clear on the connection between these two things. Those who have been following the planning and organizing of these protests say that there is considerable attention to bringing guns and strong desire for conflict. I think it is best to leave any shooting to the police and the shooters. No reason to involve counter protesters. I obviously don't think anyone should bring a protest sign to a gunfight and nor do I want gunfights between protesters and counter protesters. |
What would you do if the Klan was planning a cross burning here and the Mayor was both sidesing it? |
| Let them come, and let them do what they will do. Do not engage. It's like dealing with a middle-school bully; ignore / laugh at them and they will shrivel up and die. |

I know people who are going. There's a few separate protests, including at the Capitol, Freedom Plaza, and another at Sylvan Theater.
They picked the date 1/6 because Trump told them and that's the day Congress meets to finalize the election results. They believe that because a few Congresspeople are objecting, that this will change the outcome. Oh, and the reason all 50+ lawsuits about election fraud were lost was that all the judges are left-wingers or RINOs, etc. That includes the Supreme Court, and Trump's appointees. The most recent case (Gohmert vs Pence) was dismissed by a Trump-appointed judge for example. Their main concern violence-wise is Antifa. If counter-protestors stay away, then the police can do their job and I think things will be largely OK. The only flash point I see is they will try to enter BLM Plaza, as they did last time. Last time, police were generally able to hold them back. Also I think the turnout this time will be less than in the past, because it's on a weekday and people have to work. A lot of these people are armchair Trump supporters, and they're not going to take off a day of work for this. |
It sounds like you've only read about bullying in books or listened to podcasts. Bloody their nose and they'll back off. Show weakness and they pick on it. |
I don't know what I would do but that is not the situation we are discussing so I don't know why you are bringing it up. What we are discussing is a large group of likely armed angry people who are seeking conflict. If you want to go stand in front of a bullet, be my guest. If you think that bringing your own gun is the solution, I hope you are arrested. |
You talk pretty tough while posting anonymously. What are your plans? Are you going to risk being shot or are you just encouraging others to take the risk? |
I can't help you if you're don't see the connection between a "large group of likely armed angry people who are seeking conflict" and a cross burning by the KKK. I don't suggest going armed. I also don't think they'll start shooting if there are 10,000+ of us and only a few hundred of them. I think they'll stick to their circle jerk wherever they have protests permits and not bother the rest of DC. |
