The parent in this ad wants the person to come from 1-4pm. What second job is going to let you work with those hours?

I'm pretty sure that the ad said 15 hours per week. Plenty of people work the morning shift or a late 5-12 shift later. It's totally doable. Lots and lots of people do it.

Lots and lots of people aren’t wearing masks. Lots and lots of people don’t wear their seatbelts. Lots and lots of people are miserable. Doesn’t mean someone should take this job.

My guess is that a person willing to work 3 hours a day would be perfectly fine taking it. You really don't have to apply. I'm sure your daddy made sure that your Harvard degree is well utilized.

Just don’t apply. You don’t need to name call and post it on a discussion board. What’s not surprisingly is the meanness on DCUM to think this is ok. You have no idea what the family’s situation is. You assume because they have two homes but that means nothing.

Good grief. Some people really need to get a grip and have thicker skin. Two things I would expect for a family of 5 with 2 homes in DMV.
Also, this is hardly the meanest thing ever posted on DCUM

Absolutely not. But usually it’s the recipient of the hatred has actually participated ok DCUM or is a celebrity. Imagine finding this if you were the poster of the ad. Seems very unkind.

They've learned a lesson and maybe they and their mom friends living in $1M dual-homes will stop posting ads for less than minimum wage when taxes, expenses, and benefits are stripped.

Its child care. Most child care workers make minimum wage. Be real. That is far above minimum wage.

A nanny is a luxury. If they want basic childcare then they need to hire a teenager or put their children in daycare.

They already have one. This is on top of that and it's educational. Maybe nanny/au pair needs a break. If I lived close or were a student I might consider it.

An au pair isn't a nanny. Its a 17-year-old to 18-year-old kid who couldn't afford to live in the U.S. any other way. They are not skilled in newborn care or infant instruction which is precisely why this family is looking for a schoolteacher with educational experience of two years and a degree!

If anything the au pair is just there to make sure the kids don't die and asking them to watch 3 kids under 5 is a more than anyone bargained for.

They specifically don’t want a student. They want a professional with 2+ years teaching experience and an education degree. If this was targeted at current students, that’s fine, but to ask for a 1-on-1 tutor with a degree and teaching experience for only $24/hr and not account for all the planning and prep for these learning activities is... insulting.

Well I for one am now hoping they get some great applicants. Hopefully this post gave their ad some exposure.
So mean.

You shouldn't post if you have no idea what you are talking about. 17 year olds can not be Au Pairs. Au Pairs can be 18-26. And a quick look at the Au Pair sub on the nanny forum will show you that most families will not accept an 18 year old Au Pair.

The newborn alone would be $20/hr in my opinion. The other two kids would be $20/hr together assuming they're potty-trained.

$20/hr for the older kids is a fine rate for a babysitter... these people are requesting A certified teacher to provide daily tutoring (“learning activities and enrichment”)... This rate just doesn’t reflect what they’re requiring

this is a reasonable rate. certain DCUM nannies make a hobby of trying to inflate nanny rates.

Where does it say certified. It says preschool teacher, not certified teacher.

They are not asking for a nanny. They are asking for a teacher/tutor with years of experience and education. For very specific hours that will make it difficult to obtain additional hours. AND they add in the impossible task of incorporating a 5 month old into the preschoolers lessons.

They specifically state in their ad that "formal education training or degree preferred."
Obviously they are not looking for the 18 year old "gap year" kid whose "experience" is watching the neighbor's kids on date night.

Well, an early childhood educator (Which they are requesting) with and education degree and 2+ years teaching experience is going to be certified. There aren’t many uncertified teachers with experience and degrees... maybe at a daycare center but I don’t know any teachers that graduated with a degree and got jobs without certification. That’s like asking for someone that went to medical school but not specifically a “doctor.”

Preschool teachers are daycare workers, and daycare workers are "early child educators."

We paid an older women ( about 60) $22/hr to watch/drive to practices etc. our 4 school age kids, about 18-20 hours per week. She only wanted to work part time. It's not crazy for a community college student or a younger retiree.
