For many it is not a choice.

Thank you.

Also, how is a nanny safer for a family? Unless she lives with you, you don’t know what she’s doing when she’s not at your house.

Also, it’s shocking to me that I identified myself as an essential workers, and people still attacked me.

Unbelievable.

Which of these apply to you?

A spouse who makes 300k a year
A bullshit job that doesn’t require you to produce
Monthly contributions from grandparents to support your lifestyle
A woman without a career or man whose wife does not have a career
All of the above

Np here, but I’m a teacher and none of these apply to me and I agree with the pp. Why should something so unsafe continue right now? Childcare is the same level of exposure as healthcare and we deserve the same protection. If we can’t wear masks, I’m not even going.

You realize the generous unemployment benefits won’t last forever right? Hope you have sufficient savings.

I have no choice.

What? NO SHARES. Just as bad. You need to hire an au pair to live with you. It’s really not that much more expensive than a nanny share anyway.

You realize that there are essential workers who can't afford nannies, right?

Doctors can afford nannies.

What kind of essential worker are you? Unfortunately people see the fields that are deemed “essential” and think it’s a joke.

A nanny is much safer. That’s only one person. In a center there are ten to a hundred people that your kid is exposed to every day. You have no idea what all of those people have been doing either.

You all have some nerve attacking essential workers.

Yes because that’s all essential workers.

Everyone saying that we need to close daycare centers better not expect doctors or nurses who are parents to care for them. Or grocery stores to operate because they too are staffed by parents, and no one who works at a grocery store can afford a nanny. Even if you use Instacart, the store needs to be opened and staffed.

Oh but let’s just ridicule essential workers. That’s what the assholes on this forum do.

What about the pharmacy tech, Nurse and nursing assistant?

You do realize that most workers needed to run hospitals do not earn anywhere a doctor’s salary, right? For every doctor, there are countless nurses and dozens of other support staff. What about them????

Well they should just put an au pair in their spare bedroom!!!

OMG people. If everyone could afford and had space for full time live in child care, would we even have day cares? Probably not.
