Rest of the page is people bickering with no reference to what peds have advised.

At least 4 or 5 posters have gotten the advice from their pediatrician not to send their kids back to daycare if possible. Sorry that this medical advice bothers you.

You also have to admit that some of it is common sense. If you have other options, don’t send your kid to daycare. If it’s your only option, do what you have to do.

It also depends a little bit what your goal is- help to flatten the curve, or prevent your family from getting the virus until there is known, proven treatment or a vaccine.

Goal doesn't matter if you don't have a choice.

Everyone has a choice- but yes if the choice is sending your child to daycare or having to quit and not have enough $$ to pay for food/shelter, or leaving a medical office short-staffed, those are very unpalatable choices.

I just think it's a lot of freaking out over unknowns and imagined future advice on this thread. As someone who has a baby I was told not to put into daycare (unrelated to COVID), that advice was very clear "group childcare is not a safe option for her so you will need to figure something else out until she is x old." A ped advising that you might want to consider other options besides daycare is very different than a ped saying daycare is not safe for your child.

I asked my pediatrician about this at a regular appointment yesterday. She has a baby about 3 months older than mine. She said she has no professional recommendation, probably the longer we can keep them home the better (her husband is teleworking so they are dealing with it that way for now), but she thinks the risk is very low for kids and it's just not realistic to tell all parents to stay home and hire a nanny. Just another data point.

The risk isn’t so much to the kids. The kids will get COVID sooner or later and be fine. The risk is the kids spreading it to each other and then taking it home to family members and infecting teachers.

I understand this. I am literally just repeating what my pediatrician said. I did not argue with her, nor am I trying to argue here that she is correct and other doctors are not.
