Check out the Emily Henderson post for more design blog love/hate! |
Because they have a history of spinning mistakes - how many times have they said "this is our forever house!!!" and then moved not even 6 months later? Remember when they bought their last house but didn't tell people until after it was done? But then girlfriend eats cheese all over instagram (well not anymore, because she reads GOMI and reacts to everything the people on there say a few days later). |
They really do spin their decisions on houses, furniture, wall colors, states, etc. And everything is perfect and just as they hoped until 6 months later when they realized what would REALLY blow their hair back and now everything is perfect. Rinse and repeat. |
Their business is a blog with remodeling houses. They have to move to keep the business and their income moving. |
Not necessarily, they didn't move to do the houses in Cape Charles and all Sherry talked about was how much they loved Cape Charles. She also loved the Fan district of Richmond. They should have stayed in Virginia, kept the pink Cape Charles house, kept their house and started flipping houses locally. It would have given blog content, given their kids stability and kept them busy. They had local family and friends on Richmond to help with kids. They even used to mention John's parents watching the kids so they could drive back and forth to Cape Charles for house projects. I couldn't imagine giving that up to live on the Florida panhandle. Also, Sherry has some issues - remember she doesn't drive?? |
Dude. That’s super old. She’s been driving ever since they had kids... |
When? She literally never goes anywhere without John. Every time they were fixing up the house in CC they would go together, with the kids or not. Doesn’t seem like she ever drives or goes anywhere alone |
She does not drive. |
Why doesn't she drive? Does anyone know? |
Okay, you can keep insisting. She did several updates over the years saying that she always kept her drivers license and started driving once they had kids and they had to be different places at the same time. |
She lived in NYC and didn’t have a car. Then they moved to Richmond and only had one car. She worked from home and John had an office job so he drove the car and they did errands together. Later John quit to work on the blog full time. After they had kids she updated that she drives because it became necessary. Then they quit blogging for awhile and started their podcast after taking a break. It sounds like John drives most of the time when they’re all together and she drives when they need to be in separate places. They still only have one car. |
Do you really thing the blog is their *entire* life?? |
I do think the pandemic is ruining their fairy tale beach move. They hurried it up so that the kids could be in school with friends, but now it's all online and things suck. Tiny house, no friends, can't make friends, more online school.
I do wonder if they'll crack and move back to VA this year. |
Well plenty of house flippers invest in houses and sell them...to other people. You don't have to move every 6 months for blog content. Every show on HGTV is people who have made a business out of flipping or home design for others. You don't see all the hosts moving all the time. |
Yes. The problem with YHL is that they are more into decorating than actual renovation. They have had great projects, but prefer to do the work themselves (cheaper and more control) and move at a slow pace for the industry's standard. I believe it would be a struggle for them to make decisions, work with contractors, manage unforeseen problems and sell houses in a reasonable time. Also, flippers have a reserve of cash that comes and goes in big chunks with projects. That would make J and S too nervous. |
