Latest post shows that they've put the plans for an addition on hold, have one bathroom with zero storage, and a house with a truly bizarre layout. Given that they're going on another podcast hiatus and have all but stopped posting on Instagram, I have a hunch they're about to take another blogging break and head back to Virginia.
I think the move to Florida was to satisfy whatever midlife crisis Sheri was experiencing, and they deeply regret it. They moved across the country in the middle of a global pandemic to an area where they had zero family or friends, and left Richmond where they had family, friends, vacation home, spacious house, nice yard. I'd be willing to bet money that they'll be back in VA within a year. |
We have a 900 square foot house, 3 tiny bedrooms and one bathroom. Its fine. |
She just posted on their insta that they have day jobs and they're trying to keep that part of their life private. I think this house cost a LOT more money than they thought it would (they had to take it down to the studs on the first floor and they did a lot of exterior work) and they don't have money to do the renos that they planned, so they have had to take on a lot more freelance work to pay for everything. Add to all that, they are probably realizing they made a HUGE mistake - the kids are going to be DL and they left all of John's family in Virginia where they could have had help with the kids, not to mention all their friends, neighbors, and the kids' friends. They are deeply regretting their decision. And it's not their fault that there was a pandemic, it was just really terrible timing and it was too late to back out by mid-March when all this started. As annoying as I find Sherry, I still feel terrible for them. |
Do you have to carry all of your meals upstairs and through a loving room to go eat outside? |
But did you move there in the middle of the pandemic where you don't have any friends, your kids don't have any friends, and right now there's not a way for any of you to meet people? I don't know where two people are going to work from home and two children are going to do distance learning in that house, too. There's no privacy. |
Lol I haven't read their blog in forever - is that really the situation? ![]() |
The house is a terrible layout for a family of four to live in, more like a vacation home layout. And didn't they say the weekends at the beach house made them realize they could all be happy in a much smaller home?
That's why on vacation we all say, "This is great. I could live like this all the time" but then go back to real life afterwards. |
I agree. If they’re not regretting moving to Florida, they’re definitely regretting doing it this year. Their quality of life would have been so much better if they had stayed in Richmond through the pandemic. They spent years building up a huge support system and they gave it up the one year it would have been the most useful. I feel bad for them. Their timing sucks. |
The house layout is super weird and impractical. The bedrooms and kitchen are downstairs. The living room and deck are upstairs. |
Yes, the house they bought is about 1400 square feet, but it has the most bizarre layout. They turned what should be the living room into a massive master bedroom, their kids rooms are small (their daughters room has an exterior door and their sons room has no closet), the use the loft upstairs as the living room, and they eat most.meals in the deck off of the living room. They're surrounded by massive new build beach houses on small lots including one that has been under construction right next door since they moved to Florida. Honestly, it sounds like a nightmare situation and I do feel bad for them. The thing that is frustrating is that they never admit that something is not working as expected. I think they would gain a lot of respect from followers of they were honest. |
Wow. Day jobs? The blog has been Sherry's main gig for more than a decade. That's so weird. I wonder if it's no longer paying the bills given COViD. |
I think when they say "day jobs" they mean that they have been freelancing, not that they have 40 hours/week jobs. But apparently now they're super private so they're not going to tell us anymore (after years of Sherry shaking her booty all over instagram and giving us the blow by blow of everything she does). Mark my words, they're going to take another break and move back to Richmond. This was a huge mistake. |
And welcome to hurricane season btw and 100 degree heat |
Dang y’all are a bunch of haters. I think they took a risk and, if nothing else, it will be a memorable family adventure of moving to another state. And if it doesn’t work out well then they can move back. Not sure why so many people are waiting around for them to “admit they were wrong”. Who cares?? I applaud them for having the courage to try something new which is not something 99% of the people on DCUM can say. |
+100 So, they are optimists and look of the bright side. What's so awful about that? Yes, the timing sucks and they may want to move back but at least they aren't playing it safe and wondering "what if." |
