Young House Love - wtf is going on with Sherry?

Pp again. Also they couldn't document each project in extreme detail if others did the work. That's part of their brand and their audience expects it. They would lose content.

I do wonder if they'll crack and move back to VA this year.

They're pretty shady about hiding things. I wouldn't be surprised if they prerecorded a bunch of content from the Florida house and if they're already back in VA. Johns parents lived very close to them in Richmond, so they could be staying with them temporarily.

And risk the health of Johns parents?

Sigh.

Eh I don't think they've left FL.

I also wouldn't say they are "shady" about hiding things. They are pretty open for public consumption. I realize they make money doing that, and clearly enjoy it. But I think it's completely normal to hold some stuff back and to have boundaries there. I don't expect anyone I follow that I consider an "influencer" is showing me every detail. Or letting me know every side to everything. I'm not owed that as a consumer. And it's creepy you think you are...

+1 They were more open early on but pulled back on the personal details, particularly sharing things about their kids. I don't get why people assume their kids don't do anything outside of school just because they don't share anything. That's the whole point, they don't talk about their kids' lives.

This is what is so insane about internet celebrities: "they're shady about hiding things."

...it's THEIR LIFE! They don't owe you a crap's worth of transparency!

Understandable that people enjoy their brand, but unbelievable that people forget they are real people who can erect boundaries any time they want to, and that they have no obligation to perform or disclose or post in real time.

I dont need to ever hear them mention their son or daughter again. That's not why people follow them. But if they tell me that some design or construction decision was decided upon because of specific factors or that a piece of furniture is great, but then they turn around and say, yeah no, we were never actually happy with it. It bugged us from the get-go, etc. Then they should say that. Everything they choose is AAA+ fantastic until they change it in a reveal and tell you it was a long time coming.

Of course we all can make our decisions without J and S telling us their opinions. I don't care for the way they hype things and gloss over design problems. I'd rather have more accurate accounting.

Not necessarily, they didn't move to do the houses in Cape Charles and all Sherry talked about was how much they loved Cape Charles. She also loved the Fan district of Richmond. They should have stayed in Virginia, kept the pink Cape Charles house, kept their house and started flipping houses locally. It would have given blog content, given their kids stability and kept them busy. They had local family and friends on Richmond to help with kids. They even used to mention John's parents watching the kids so they could drive back and forth to Cape Charles for house projects. I couldn't imagine giving that up to live on the Florida panhandle.

Also, Sherry has some issues - remember she doesn't drive??

Dude. That’s super old. She’s been driving ever since they had kids...

No, she hasn't. She said she can drive but she doesn't like doing it, and she doesn't do it unless she has to. They only have one car.

When? She literally never goes anywhere without John. Every time they were fixing up the house in CC they would go together, with the kids or not. Doesn’t seem like she ever drives or goes anywhere alone

Do you really thing the blog is their *entire* life??

It's not. I have a friend who lives in their Richmond neighborhood, and even though they have mutual friends, even she tells me that John and Sherry are ALWAYS together unless it's a girl's night out.

Totally agree, plus, when the going gets tough and people start questioning their decisions, instead of being honest "we are having a hard time, this move might not have been the best decision", instead they clam up and decide to take a break. It's what they did last time and it's what they're doing this time.

At least when Dana from HouseTweaking came back after a 2 year hiatus, she was completely honest about why she bailed and what happened during that time frame, and she explained that she came back because she had new content with this camp house thing.

Online school in FL? Aren't schools open there?

Okay, you can keep insisting.

She did several updates over the years saying that she always kept her drivers license and started driving once they had kids and they had to be different places at the same time.

Dude, Sherri, is this you? They have one car and made a big deal about how "that's what works for their family," so please, tell me more about how she drives when they have to be two places at once.

There is just no way they are happy in that house.

No way.

Have you been watching her "rearrange furniture" for their sitting area next to the kitchen? It's basically an entry way at best with mini furniture that belongs in a college dorm.

I understand the desire to downsize, but usually when people do, they downsize to something smaller but nicer or equally as nice. They've downsized and seriously down-graded. It's weird. There has to be something else going on behind the scenes.

Their kitchen is like a furnished rental. They are crowing about downsizing and having one of each thing and it being better than they had hoped because they don't use all the excess anyway.

If their blog had been aspirational at some point, that seems to have ended.

Can someone link to the sale listing for their Florida house?
