This is such a horrible story. And as Jon was trying to spend time with Colin, Kate moved him further away? That she didn’t even show up in court during the custody hearings about Colin speaks volumes of who she is as a person.

For someone who sooo wanted to keep his kids out of the limelight he sure has no trouble airing all this dirty laundry now. He's been doing the talk show circuit claiming that Kate abused the kids. The whole thing is so sordid.

I remember how blindsided Kate was when Jon decided to blow up their life. You could tell what a nightmare the whole thing was for her. I felt for her then and I was puzzled by Jon's motivations at the time.

He comes across as very vindictive. His goal seems to be taking Kate down. Ruining her. It's clear that he despises her.

There's a difference between agreeing to give the other parent legal custody, and terminating parental rights.

I think Jon is bitter towards Kate. He wanted the divorce and I think he underestimated her star power and Kate's ability to support herself. I think he really thought that when he ended his involvement in the show that would be the end of it for Kate, too. They would become "normal" people again, figure out custody, split up assets...and go live there regular lives as regular people. He tried to go under the radar but Kate kept herself (and the kids) in the spotlight. Hannah actually WAS her favorite. In the first few seasons the opening credit, where they said the kids names and a brief description, Hannah's was Kate saying "Hannah's the leader, and mommy's helper." At two years old. FFS. According to Jon, Hannah got sick of being the "leader" and the "role model" and Kate's pet and chose to live with Jon.

Jon decided my ass. She divorced her husband because he didn’t want to film in order to protect his kids.

Jon works fulltime in IT now.

Kate isn't a reality TV star. She desperately wants to be one, hence the fact she illegally filmed her children, but that ship has sailed. No one cares.

Jon isn't remarried. He has a long term girlfriend.

He didn't want the divorce. He wanted to quit the show, and Kate basically said...show or divorce. TLC offered him literally millions of dollars to stay married for the sake of the TV show.

He's talking now because a 10-year gag order on him has been lifted. And because his ex-wife dumped their 11 year old son in a psychiatric facility for years and refused to tell him where he was.

It sounds like he gave Kate an ultimatum. Quit the show/lose their income OR divorce him. Jon actually was the one calling the shots. He could have said that he wanted to greatly reduce his involvement or eliminate himself entirely from the show without divorcing Kate. But Jon was basically demanding that she quit the show, too, or he did not want to remain married.

Kate chose to stay on the show and continue to bring in the money that supported their children. Jon ran off and started sleeping around and playing the single guy. Oh, I remember well how he behaved...

He behaved like that after he lost custody of the kids and basically had no visitation. Court allowed Kate to do what ever she wanted which is pretty typical sadly. He had absolutely no right to say anything that happened in his kids lives. Its not surprising he self-destructed after losing his kids for a while. However, once when his kids were ready to run, he stepped up and took one daughter and fought for his son and would gladly take all the kids but most were brainwashed by then. Those kids had terrible lives being manipulated by their mom and tv and camera's constantly on them. She was abusive to everyone.

There's a difference between agreeing to give the other parent legal custody, and terminating parental rights.

You cannot sign over your rights, courts will not allow it. But, if Dad's only get a few days a month visitation, mom gets full legal custody then you might as well terminate their rights as Dad is basically at best a friendly visitor and child support check.
