Remind me why we hate Jon Gosselin?

I know the basic story: how he left his overbearing wife with all those kids. But why does he get such a worse rap than Kate? She seems like a harpy that any sane man would fantasize stepping out on.

He had a ten-year gag order that expired a few months ago - so Kate was the one who was wholly controlling the narrative. Plus she was given free (and very strong) legal representation from TLC whereas Jon paid for his legal stuff all on his own.

I don't hate Jon at all. He has a real job in IT, a girlfriend of four years, and has legal custody of Hannah and Collin now. He rescued Collin after Kate dumped him in an inpatient facility for THREE YEARS and visited him like twice.

He didn’t “leave” his kids. He didn’t get custody. I think he was a lunkhead who got duped into having quints by a woman with undiagnosed mental health disorders. He felt like living life on tv was damaging for his kids. I agree.

Last I heard Jon was waiting tables. I know that he used to be in IT and Kate used to be a nurse...that was before TLC.

Now Kate is a reality t.v. show star and Jon is remarried with custody of 2 of the sextuplets.

I think Jon is bitter towards Kate. He wanted the divorce and I think he underestimated her star power and Kate's ability to support herself. I think he really thought that when he ended his involvement in the show that would be the end of it for Kate, too. They would become "normal" people again, figure out custody, split up assets...and go live there regular lives as regular people. He tried to go under the radar but Kate kept herself (and the kids) in the spotlight. Maybe he's come to terms with the fact that he is never going to have a normal life again, he'll always be recognizable...so now he can talk again. Might as well make the best of it.

I wouldn't want to be married to either of them but the "she's too controlling" complaints about her are pretty ridiculous to me. Anyone with multiples will tell you they have to keep things on a strict schedule to accomplish anything, and he wasn't going to be the one to set or keep to the schedule.

Plus he quit his real job to be photographed in public in those ridiculous shirts and be a DJ and sleep with D-list stars. The idea that she dragged them into the limelight and he didn't want to be there doesn't ring true. They both loved the fame and they both hated the backlash. Their kids are the ones that suffered.

Also they're both liars who did a big Evangelical Church Circuit hyping the "the doctors told us to reduce but we knew that was murder and God made sure all our babies pulled through so just have faith and ignore those evil doctors" narrative, only to admit a decade later that, yes, actually, one fetus did die in utero because it was too crowded for them all to make it. Just like the evil old doctor told them would happen.

I’m sure he his bitter and rightfully so. The fact that she dumped her kid at a psychiatric hospital for 3 years, only visiting him 3 times. She is a real life Disney villain. Psychiatric hospitals are sometimes a necessary evil, but dollars to donuts, colin had unaddressed learning disabilities. He probably does have ptsd now. Kate is like Deedee Blanchard.

The gag order was probably a result of TLC out-lawyering him.

Kate isn't a reality TV star. She desperately wants to be one, hence the fact she illegally filmed her children, but that ship has sailed. No one cares.

Jon isn't remarried. He has a long term girlfriend.

He didn't want the divorce. He wanted to quit the show, and Kate basically said...show or divorce. TLC offered him literally millions of dollars to stay married for the sake of the TV show.

He's talking now because a 10-year gag order on him has been lifted. And because his ex-wife dumped their 11 year old son in a psychiatric facility for years and refused to tell him where he was.

It sounds like he gave Kate an ultimatum. Quit the show/lose their income OR divorce him. Jon actually was the one calling the shots. He could have said that he wanted to greatly reduce his involvement or eliminate himself entirely from the show without divorcing Kate. But Jon was basically demanding that she quit the show, too, or he did not want to remain married.

Kate chose to stay on the show and continue to bring in the money that supported their children. Jon ran off and started sleeping around and playing the single guy. Oh, I remember well how he behaved...
