Remind me why we hate Jon Gosselin?

She had full custody. He did not. Colin was an obstacle to the image she wanted to project for the tv show. She couldn’t divorce him so she institutionalized him.

Jon has custody of 2 kids. Lucky them.

I follow Jon on Instagram (I know, judge away). He seems to have friends, hobbies, regularly spends time with his siblings/family, and is in a committed relationship. And he has a normal job. Kate appears to have alienated her entire family, has no friends, and no job.

He seems like a far healthier and functional person than his ex.

He also hasn't been raising 8 kids for the past several years, either. That probably gives a person lots of time to cultivate normalcy.

Np.

Please. She had nannies and assistants and household staff, without actually having a job. Kate was far from struggling. I have far more respect for Octomom.

Then you're a fool.

Kate also had "bodyguards"

Now Kate is a reality t.v. show star and Jon is remarried with custody of 2 of the sextuplets.

I think Jon is bitter towards Kate. He wanted the divorce and I think he underestimated her star power and Kate's ability to support herself. I think he really thought that when he ended his involvement in the show that would be the end of it for Kate, too. They would become "normal" people again, figure out custody, split up assets...and go live there regular lives as regular people. He tried to go under the radar but Kate kept herself (and the kids) in the spotlight. Maybe he's come to terms with the fact that he is never going to have a normal life again, he'll always be recognizable...so now he can talk again. Might as well make the best of it.

Something wrong with a woman who needs all those kids.

There are a few families in my neighborhood with 6 kids. Only one with 8 (that I know of.) Somehow, they manage to support themselves and lead normal lives without reality TV.

Neither has Kate...

Reading about what Kate did to Collin made me sick. She was strangely hostile to him specifically when he was little, and then to have him locked away...for ADHD? For years?! It’s medieval. So, yeah, I always thought Job was shallow and a dolt. But he’s head and shoulders better than that monster Kate. She has some kind of personality disorder or something.

i grew up with a mom who had narcissistic personality disorder and watching the show, even back in the early days when they were just a 'normal' middle class family, pinged my radar and triggered me.

I have followed none of what’s happened since their show ended, but the handful of times I watched it, he acted like a ninth child. It would have driven me nuts to parent eight kids and have my spouse undermine me all the time when I tried to maintain some order and sanity.

You don’t send a kid to a psychiatric hospital for 3 years for adhd. That’s abuse.

Am I back in 2008? Who has thought about the Gosselins at all in the last decade?

This.

If she cared about him more than herself, she could have given up her custody of him to Jon.

Who in their right mind would send their kid to an institution without first trying all other options. Collin was a kid but could probably see right through her BS so she chose to lock him up. 3 years! Only 3 visits! That’s just evil.

Same, but at the time I couldn’t figure out why my mom was so horrible. The word “narcissist” was being used on social media about Kate and I looked into it. Bingo. Everything matched my mother. I finally had to courage to cut off ties with her during that time and have never looked back.

She definitely has a personality disorder. I’m sorry about your mom.

This is all old news. But I do remember way back when Jon and Kate plus 8 was at its peak popularity I had come across an obscure message board of women who were desperate to get pregnant with multiples. There was an account there which claimed Kate had basically achieved this and it detailed how she did it. Basically she bought drugs from Mexico and injected herself with these drugs that resulted in so many babies. Her already sketchy doctor was unaware. And then she wasn’t being monitored properly and had sex when no doctor would advise that. That was the gist of it. And that’s what all these laidies were trying to do as well. Insane.

They both seem awful.

Kate wouldn't even tell Jon where Collin was. She didn't want Jon to have him. Her selfishness is appalling. Collin eventually was able to sneak a note out to Jon to let him know where he was.

Given how Kate treated Collin, I am on Jon's side. Any parent who would send their child away and basically abandon them and refuse the other parent contact is a truly awful person. She has worked hard to keep Jon away from the kids and to badmouth him to them.

Jon definitely went through a rough stage but overall I think he is a much better person.
