| Surprised I haven't seen this yet - but our public elementary school requires an adult to bring K and 1st grade kids to bus stop in the morning and be there at the end of the day too (or maybe that is only K, I'm not sure). It depends on the bus driver whether this is enforced, I think. |
| This is definitely only a thing here in NOVA/MOCO area. You just have to ignore and do you. They are all keeping up with the Jones and being a good mom is being ready-made in work-out gear or office attire with your expensive coffee cup and fake smile at the bus stop. |
Not in our neighborhood. They are walking their dogs and use the pick-up as a site to say hi to neighbors and let dogs have some fun |
| So in our neighborhood, elementary kids can't wait at the bus stop alone if their house cannot be seen by the bus driver. The layout of our street means that's about 5 kids. So the bus stop turns into a social thing. DS could be there by himself, but dh enjoys chatting with some of our friends. And sometimes I get home from work before the bus comes so will pull over and come out and say hi to everyone. No one cares about or judges the parents that aren't there. |
| DH is heading out to work after our 6 year old gets on the bus. No way he will leave without knowing the kid is actually on the bus (I hope no one would). He drives to the first stop and continues to work as early as possible. |
dp You are not the bus police. What if my Billy is talking to his friend while I talk to my friend at the bus. Is that allowed in your little world? Either way, you do you and let other people live their lives. |
Same |
Let dogs have fun? LOL |
Even 5th and 6th graders? They are basically teens. What school district is this nonsense?
|
They are not teens in 5th grade. I'm shocked how parents check out when kids are 5-6-7-8 and think they are done parenting. |
|
I walked my son to the MS bus stop in the morning for three years. He would actually TALK to me on the way. He would kick leaves and look at his shoes but he would tell me about his upcoming tests or what his friends were up to or other things about his life. No way was I giving that up.
Now we have to drive to the magnet stop. I hang out with one of the other moms who has been my friend for the past three years. Sometimes we don’t even notice that the bus came while we are talking. |
Those ages are K and 1st sweetie, not 5th and 6th. Either way, are you saying my kids in 4th and 6th grade, BOTH in ES in Fairfax should have a parent walking them to and from the bus stop or they are checked out?
|
LOL, this sick. The mom is actually rationalizing why she still walks her teenagers to the bus stop? It is called helicoptering. |
Good lord, yes. Nobody cares. They are there because they have the time and probably want to socialize. You don't have to do this if you don't want to. Send your 5th grader alone and don't worry about it. |
DP but my fourth grader will be 10 next year in 5th. Not a teenager. FTR he can go to the bus stop himself even now but often wants company and sometimes gets it. |
