What are you smoking? No one is taking the cruddy bus line in the suburbs to get to a Back to School Night. The closest bus line to me is about about 1 mile. I am supposed to walk to that and get an indirect line to school. That will take me about 45min and it is a 7min drive. JW is landlocked with no other street parking or businesses nearby. And they once again wasted a ton of space in the front and left front of the school that could have went to parking when restructuring. MCPS literally makes up the worst plans for these schools. No thought to change that God awful lunch room and "stage" with all the kids there. It is embarrassing how much money and time was wasted on the new wing. |
If you choose to drive, that's fine. But keep in mind that you are also then choosing to either park your car a long way and walk, or fight with parking in some other way. The purpose of JW is to be a school, not to have ample parking on-site for large school events so that everyone can drive and easily park. |
You must be from administration. You can't be this dumb to believe that is a school is not supposed to have parking for events at their school.
|
Of course a school needs parking spaces for faculty and staff, but building enough parking for all of the parents to drive and park at once is a waste of space. And space is a limited resource. Driving is shorter, but parking is limited. The bus takes longer, but you don't have to park. It's your choice. |
| Never said there should be parking for all the parents. It used to be just a field. It is not like a typical school where you might have to walk a distance in a neighborhood after parking on the street. There is no neighborhood street with parking. It is a 270 entrance... |
Then take the bus or walk or ride a bike. Or persuade other people that they should take the bus or walk or ride a bike, thereby freeing up parking spaces for you. Or work with the PTA to set up a shuttle service from a satellite lot. |
Just looked at your 56 bus. It runs every 30 minutes and ends at 9:30. No way it can be used for JW evening event for hundred of people. |
Will it work for everybody? No. Will it work for some people? Yes. Driving and parking doesn't work for everybody either. |
I am glad we can agree that it does not solve the problem. |
Can we agree that it can help to solve the problem? |
| There are neighborhoods that are walkable to JW. They are in the other side than the 270 entrance. You’d have to walk a few blocks, but it’s definitely within walking distance. If you come from the Rockville town center side, you will drive past neighborhoods, not highways, on your way to JW. |
| I would think that most families that can walk to JW for big events already do. Coming down over the curb in one spot over a moveable ramp is not something that most parents opt for. |
Aren't there kids who walk to/from JW? Or maybe MCPS considers them walkers, but they all get driven? Also, just out of curiosity - aren't there kids who take the RideOn or Metrobus after school? |
? You want parents to bike to JWMS for night meetings when it's raining? |
Many of us don't live near Town Center. We would have to walk over 270 bridge to get to JWMS. No way would I do that at night, especially when it's raining. |
