It is possible to bike a. in the rain. b. at night c. in the rain at night. But why did you bring up rain? Sometimes it rains, but most of the time it doesn't. |
I have to agree.. if parents are forced to take a long bus ride and walk in the rain just to get to a back to school night, you will see parent participation drop. We would go for very important things, but BTS would not be considered "really important". I do go to BTS now, and park in the neighborhood and walk, but the walk would not require me to go over the 270 entrance, and wait for a bus for 20min. |
It's possible, but not advisable. I was already hit by a car once cross the road. It was not a fun experience, trust me. I would never cross that 270 entrance on foot at night. |
Most of the JW service area is east of 270, and people who live in that part of the JW service area would not have to walk over the 270 bridge. http://gis.mcpsmd.org/ServiceAreaMaps/WestMS.pdf |
+1. I've parked in those neighoborhoods a few times and easily walked to JW. Another option is to park at the high school and take the shuttle bus over. Or you can Uber to the school for big events. |
People who bike from Woodley Gardens do not have to cross that 270 entrance. |
If you're not having parking problems now, then you don't need to take the bus in order to avoid parking problems, so this is not about you. |
OK folks go back to complaining about the soccer field. I live in WG. I usually carpooled to large events at JW and parked on the field. I can't really imagine it without the field but they will come up with something. Someone mentioned a shuttle from RM? That must be new but is an idea. |
Parked on the field? Did MCPS know about this? Andrew Zuckerman says parking is not a problem. |
|
Did anybody even go to this meeting yesterday?
And if you did, and you drove there, where did you park? |
I mentioned the RM shuttle. For the past 3 BTS nights (ever since I've been a JW parent), they've always provided a shuttle from RM. I'm trying to remember what they did for Parent/Teacher conferences. I feel like I parked in the adjacent neighborhood and just walked over for those events. What are the other events that require all grades to be there? The only other times I go to JW aside from BTS night, parent/teacher conferences are for concerts. |
My child is at RM now but every big event I went to involved parking on the field. They had a small ramp to get over the curb up to the sidewalk. Security guys stood there and adjusted it between every car. Took forever! |

Beware of these public-private partnerships. Check out threads about DC and Maret school. It is a huge mess. Started out with a similar arrangement, though DPR gave the private school rights to the prime after school

Yes, JW provided a school bus shuttle from RM to BTSN this year and last. The bus I took was quite full. |
Lots of complaints about the turf, but the 'grass' field at JW was a cow pasture. Lots of ruts and bare spots. Probably more dangerous to kids health than turf. |
