Turf fields cause cancer Turf fields are not natural Turf fields cause more injuries Turf fields cause 1st and 2nd degree burns Turf fields get to over 150 degrees when it is only 90 out. No thanks |
| I have not seen it. How much field us left for parent parking on back to school night or other big events? |
???????? |
Somehow the bottom line is always: how does this affect parking. |
That is a lot of money for a school system that can’t afford textbooks and has overcrowded schools. How much does MCPS spend on maintaining the grass fields? Someone is making a TON of money off this endeavor. |
And you think SAM is better? Kids have to play year round there too. Or do you just hate all soccer? I think you’re disgusting for your last sentence. I want my kids in a diverse environment, not some elitist bubble. |
Parking sucks at most schools as is, so this is a moot point. |
It is particularly bad at JW as it is basically at a 270 intersection. There is almost no street parking near by. |

My kids have always played MSI, and I thought they were very reasonable. For my boys, one does basketball and soccer and the other does baseball and soccer. My daughter does theater and soccer, so not soccer year round for any of them!
I thought Potomac Soccer and Bethesda Soccer we're the ones with all the money... |
Nah, MSI throws its weight around too. See the Brickyard kerfuffle a few years ago. The neighbors, who really opposed the MSI plan because they would oppose ANY plan (including a plan for a school), were able to win because the MSI actions were so blatant. (I think that MCPS should build a high school at the Brickyard site. Maybe they could call it Widewater High School.) |
A lot of people live within walking/biking distance of JW. And there's also the T2, the 47, and the 56. If more people who can walk/bike/take the bus actually walked/biked/took the bus, then there would be more parking spaces available for people for whom walking/biking//taking the bus isn't an option. |
A few neighborhoods are in walking distance..but not many. Do those Ride Ones really have the capacity to transport 100 of parents all leaving at the same hour in the late evening? I live in WG. There is no bus that would help us get to JW. Falls grove, Kings Farm, Derwood, Parc Potomac, College Gardens all very large communities outside of walking distance. They were already breaking back to school night into two nights to accommodate space wise and that was with the field filled with cars. |
DP MSI is terrible! |
If you're not within walking distance, then this isn't about you. For what it's worth, though - it's about 2 miles from Woodley Gardens to JW, which is a perfect biking distance. A 15-minute trip. In fact, it's probably faster than driving at mass school events, if you include time to park and to leave the parking lot. |
MSI and the Turf Business. Not MCPS. They couldn't manage $10 if they tried |
