how is it better? |
It's not better according to the data and rankings with the exception of Urbana and Oakdale HS. Anything else is anecdotal. |
#factssssssssssss - Signed a Black lady |
All the objective evidence shows this to be false. I think it's just racist nonsense because HoCo has fewer minorities. |
NP. In the city of Frederick, there’s tolerance for diversity. However, outside of the city, there are a lot of solid pockets of suspicion and intolerance. My DD (AA/white biracial) and her boyfriend (white) had a very unpleasant weekend at multiple locations in Fredrick Co. neither are particularly liberal and her BF is military. That was just last month. Not “living in the past”. Other friends have had bad experiences for years, including teachers of color who left FCPS for MCPS because of entrenched racism in the schools. |
Wait, so you would rather send your kid to Baker Middle than Windsor Knolls middle? Bc there are a few more students of color? That's cutting off your nose to spite your face |
I live in that area as well, and its REALLY not like that at all. Yes, you will see one or two Trump signs. Which I suppose is one or two more than you see in Takoma Park. But honestly, PP's post is pretty racist. She sees a Trump sign, and a community of white people and assume ALL of them are racist. That's horrible. |
No, PP's post is not racist. PP's post may be bigoted. But yeesh, if a white person meets a Black person in real life, and the Black person says they could never live in Frederick County because of all of the Trump signs (in 2021!) - please don't tell that Black person they're racist. |
What's so great about Windsor Knolls MS vs. Baker MS? Just that Windsor Knolls MS has a lower percentage of poor students? | I used to work in Frederick in the late 90's and I had to drive past a Confederate flag, in a yard on a flagpole everyday. This was 25 years ago but I have a feeling the attitudes are still there. Given the choice, I would go with Moco. |
Well, it sounds like you're judging the quality of a school based exclusively off diversity and percentage of poor students. Forget test scores, or math & reading proficiency, just diversity, huh? Or, just go hang out around those school yards and listen to the kids, and ask yourself which ones are seem more respectful? which ones seem on a better path to success? And FWIW, this has nothing to do with race. Just listen to how the kids of all races speak, and how they behave at Baker. You've got blinders on. |
There's a HUGE Trump flag and a HUGE 'women for Trump' flag at the intersection of Woodfield Rd & Fieldcrest in Gaithersburg, MD. You guys want to judge a whole community by the presence of a few flags. |
Eh? A previous poster brought up student demographics. So there are the demographic data - which are, as we all know, highly correlated with standardized test scores, standardized assessments of math and reading proficiency, and some people's personal opinions about student behavior and future student access. |
| *student success, not student access |
Right. The PP said they would rather send their kid to the school which produces poorer outcomes because it has more diversity, because they "ASSUME" the other school will not welcome their child with kindness. First, that's pretty horrible that they just assume they won't welcome their child with kindness. Which, is just wrong. And also, unnecessarily denying their child opportunity to prove some stupid point. I've been in this area of upper county MoCo, and souther FredCo for a LONG time. The Damascus system is a sh%tshow, especially compared to the schools just a few miles away across the county line |
