Montgomery County vs. Frederick County

I’m PP who posted- since we’re mainly deciding between Damascus and Urbana, does this mean Urbana is better diversity wise for my family? I’m Asian and my kids are biracial. Urbana has a much higher Asian population … but to be honest I was more interested in school quality.

Yes. I think you'll be happier in Urbana.

The only other thing I'll add: I believe the open space/field behind the Urbana HS will soon become another TH/condo development.

Which is fine. Urbana has done a great job at urban planning and it seems like a pleasant place to live. Very walkable. Some pretty good restaurants and shops.

But, the school is already close to capacity and not sure what that means. It PROBABLY means that some of the communities that aren't in downtown Urbana move to Linganore, but who knows.

I think it's the #6 cow town these days

Honestly, spend a day in the city. It's about as charming as they come. Great places to eat. Unique shops that are small businesses.

Ever since we started spending our date nights there instead, we haven't felt the need to elsewhere

Given the lack of diversity in FCPS schools, I'm not at a place where I'm comfortable sending my kids there. [/quote

You admit it was many, many years ago so what makes you sure nothing has changed? I can't believe one person scared you away.

Cows don't kill people and they give...what do you do?

Please cut the stereotyping and overall bullshit. Thank you. This forum was about education.

Education is absolutely effected by what's going on in the community. They have dumbed down the curriculum not because of all the lawyers kids but because the failure rate was so high.

MCPS is much worse than when this thread started in 2019. It’s kind of scary if you think about it.

Urbana and Oakdale are seeing movement of students into it from MoCo. Urbana is IB. Both schools are becoming increasingly diverse.

By a lot. 206 schools in MCPS vs. 67 in FCPS.

Property taxes in Frederick are considerably higher - 20% higher, or more. Not sure why.
