well, too bad you appear to live in the past, as you missed one of the BEST gay pride events in the city this past weekend

Nothing stays the same, but if you're going to base your experiences on your 23 yo self, then you don't want to hear this argument.

DP: Gay Pride does not equal acceptance of racial and ethnic minorities. There’s actually a lot of anti-Asian attitudes among white gay males.

Isn't Frderick basically Maryland's Manassas?

yes, being gay doesn't mean not being racist. Look at John Galliano.

Frederick county is still very much white redneck county. As bad as MCPS schools are now, they are a lot better than Frederick schools. If you are looking for a place to settle and raise family in MD, look Howard.

For HS it depends. If you have kids in a HS magnet program in MCPS then that is better but for the general honors/AP or regular path Frederick is better. MCPS is too large and the high schools are getting too big. The mega mall style of schools is an overlooked problem. Once a school surpasses 2000 kids or has a large low income population the quality drops.

Nope, it is not. MCPS is better and leads the nation in AP tests scores.

Also only one FCPS HS made the top 20 @ number 20 in the state, while MCPS has 8.

This school had the highest SAT scores in Frederick County.
https://www.niche.com/k12/urbana-high-school-ijamsville-md/

Average SAT: 1270

That's still below the SAT scores of places like Quince Orchard and Richard Montgomery which are fairly reasonably priced compared to the other "top schools" in MoCo. Looking over at Redfin, prices in Urbana aren't really all that great compared to buying in RM or QO districts either so I really don't see the point in doing thaqt unless you must own new?

Have you ever been to France? It’s as if not more multiracial than the US?
Jews and Asians can certainly be French. Jews lived in France since the Middle Ages. Many were rounded up during the Holocaust, but France also hid many of its Jews, recognizing that they were fellow French men, women, and children. In the 1800s-1950s, France held colonial territory in Asia. During and after the wars of independence, many Indochine elites fled to France and remained there, as do their children and grandchildren. I know a family of ethnic Vietnamese that are French citizens. I think you can hear masses in French at Vietnamese Catholic parishes throughout the US. Many in the older generations were educated in French schools.

Anonymous wrote:Another difference between Frederick and MCPS is that in Frederick teachers are required to spend far less time gathering data for the school system so they have more time to grade student's work. One of the biggest problems in MCPS is that teachers spend and get so little time to grade. Grading isn't an end point. Giving substantive feedback and grade measurements to students along the way not just at the end makes a huge difference in student's learning.

Yes! Less accountability is awesome!

TOo bad you can't comprehensively read. I've clearly indicated that there is still a lack of diversity at FCPS which is based on current data.

DP.. I guess you would laugh if it was an American couple of Asian/Jewish ancestry, too. Only white people can be "real" Americans, right?

MCPS is only super racist. FCPS is super duper racist.

I have not had a child in MCPS, but currently have a MS and a recent HS graduate in FCPS. Moved here from PG (where older child did ES). There are pros and cons. In general we have found FCPS teachers involved and responsive, with generally excellent teaching ability. Because the schools are smaller, most kids know each other, and are known by the school administrators. Cons - less diversity and less intensity in the academic environment (which may be a plus for some), having to travel a far bit to take advantage of extracurricular activities and less opportunities for kids to interact outside of school. Gang activity is not a big deal, but recreational drinking and drugs can be.

I’ve been more than happy here - have had to sometimes get creative to add rigor for my kids (oldest did lots of APs and dual enrollment) but it didn’t hurt oldest any. He’s a sophomore at Ivy League school, and our youngest seems to be doing at least as well as brother.
