I drive slower when you beep your horn.

+1 I would be worried the driver behind you is a loon with a gun. I saw an altercation on the freeway once, and almost honked at them to stop, then thought better of it. I just patiently stopped several feet behind them and let it play out. I was scared that I might be shot as an innocent bystander, though. This is what it's come to in this country.. when innocent people have to be afraid that someone loon out there has a gun.

This is why I never EVER engage in road rage or really any confrontation with a stranger. Way too many petty people with guns walking around to feel safe. I’d rather be alive than “right” and dead.

I grew up in a place where gang initiation included deliberately driving slow until a driver behind you honked. Then the initiate would get out of the car and shoot the driver behind him.

People generally drive the speed limit and pay real attention to stop signs. If they think the speed limit isn’t fast enough on a street with a 20 mph or 25 mph limit, they don’t honk they just try to pass you but even that is pretty rare. I think everyone is safer because of it.

You’re doing the right thing OP. Keep on ignoring the raging drivers. If you slow down slightly after they throw temper tantrums because you are following the law, I don’t see the problem with you making your own quiet point.

Wait. Who exactly is throwing a temper tantrum?

OP: “When you lean on your horn, I drive EVEN SLOWER. ”

I will be explicit if it helps. If someone is driving the speed limit and the person behind them starts honking or driving super closely to get them to drive unsafely, I think the overly-aggressive driver is the problem. If OP slows down a mph or two, I am happy to have him or her prove her point that being obnoxious on a road with stop signs and a 20-25 mph is not going to help the raging driver’s cause.

I feel like some of you are thinking about highway driving. I can’t believe that on a parent message board so many people are advocating for the speed demons on residential streets.

Nobody is advocating to exceed the speed limit. ??

OP is getting upset because someone honked at her and then intentionally slowing down below the speed limit to piss off other drivers. She is the one throwing a temper tantrum. If she were really zen she’d ignore it and go with the flow of traffic.

ROFL!! Wasn't this a movie?

Don't be a sanctimonious as$hole.

Drive safely and appropriately, if you deliberate slow to the point you're impeding optimal traff Flow, you are a self-absorbed Dick.

You can drive safely and defensively without doing that.

Just a warning...if you go further south honking is considered rude or a provocation, if there isn't an obvious reason for it. As one of my friends said it well...you shouldn't honk unless there is a serious reason, you don't know what that person has been through that day. One of my relatives will put the car in park, and go back to have "a discussion" with the honking driver.

DP.. actually, no, it's not funny. I'm the first PP above. I grew up in LA, and some crazy drivers do purposefully do this to incite an altercation.

Someone I know got a ticket from a cop or "excessive hornage".

^sorry. should be *for not "or"

don't go below the speed limit to prove a point to someone Op. You're just punishing the other drivers behind him or her.

driving is stressful enough. Why engage in revenge driving?

Subject line correction:

You drive MORE SLOWLY, not "slower."
Anonymous
I drive safely too, OP and do not let other people's honking distract me. But you sound obnoxious.

Anonymous wrote:Yes. I slow you down on purpose.

I drive slower after you arrogantly and obnoxiously beep your horn at me.

I drive the speed limit and come to a full stop at stop signs.

I do not care that you are in a rush and riding my tail.

I do let others walk completely across the street before I enter the crosswalk.

When you lean on your horn, I drive EVEN SLOWER.

Rant over.

You know, OP, your post is all about getting pissed off if someone honks at you, but the more you respond, it's really about someone yelling, tailgating, and aggressively driving behind you. So, my question is, do you REALLY get so pissed off if someone driving behind you gives a quick and light "beep-beep" after a red light turns green and you took a minute to go, or were at a stop sign for your 10 seconds?

If that's the case, you really are the aggressive one. I can understand you doing all the crappy things you do when there's an actual aggressive driver behind you yelling at you, but if you're doing it to someone who just beeps once you're insane.

Anonymous wrote:Law enforcement here, I would probably pull over the OP. Someone going overly slow like the OP, is usually a sign of day drinking or impaired driving.

Also, as a thought, do not ignore people signalling you with honking. Sometimes it is because they are rushing, but sometimes it is to alert you of danger, a flat tire, or other reasons.

Lastly, it's self absorbed to make the flow of traffic all about you. But, that is living in this area. Selfishness if pretty typical of drivers here.

Safe driving OP.

THIS IS A TROLL

Police would never say anything even remotely close to this.

Carry on.

I don't think that PP is a troll. Cops do pull over slow drivers who impede traffic.

https://www.wsbtv.com/news/trending-now/officers-tweet-goes-viral-after-pulling-over-slow-driver-in-left-lane/772469540

That is the left lane of an interstate highway. Not a city street.

And thank you, OP. Too many people around here think they are the most important person in the universe, and making up time because they didn't plan their day well, gives them the right to endanger others.

Yup, driving 23MPH in a 25MPH is quite legal, and in some cases (light conditions impacting visibility, rain, etc) is preferred. Its a maximum speed, not a minimum.
