Pretty involved at WS VA. They talk to players about where they want to go and help them talk to coaches.

For teams that have managers, what exactly do they do? Are you talking about being the primary communicator or about administrative things like rosters and organizing trips? What else?

I did it for a couple years when my daughter was u10/u11 age. Involved maintaining the calendar, carding (and laminating & maintaining cards) all the kids, managing guest players, preparing rosters, registering and checking in for tournaments, paying refs (depends on league), and general communications. We had a treasurer to handle the money, but I was also able to sign checks and use the account for team purchases (like a bench). It can be a lot of work.

Being a manager is challenging. I take my hat off to all managers. They ate the unsung heroes of youth soccer. I good manager is worth their weight in gold.

Any DAs cover the costs for players, including travel?

I was talking about the involvement of coaches (not team managers which we didn't have this year anyways) and their involvement in the college recruitment process.

The only completely free DA I know of would be LA Galaxy. I have heard that Portland Thorns DA is partially subsidized.

most MLS boys academies u14 and up are completely cost free with the exception of DC united and maybe a few others. Even DC United is super affordable in comparison to DAs and ECNL teams in this area. $2500 all in for u14s and $1500 for older age groups.

It honestly varies a great deal.

DD will join DA at another club for 2018/19. Can she still play US youth soccer's Regionals or Super Y this summer?

Thanks.

Do GDA clubs with multiple teams in an age group allow some of the non-GDS players to practice with and guest for the GDS team? For example, will Arlington allow for members of its U14 red team to train with the U14 GDA team.

I don't see why a practice would be official roster issues, but I don't know the guest rules outside of official DP (development players). From what has been going on this year, it seems guest players (not DPs) may be allowed in showcases.

official DA rules from the DA website
https://ussoccer.app.box.com/s/ddh3x0fztgwufv8x1bc3dep1i97t0q5h

A Developmental Player may appear in a maximum of six (6) Academy games per season. Developmental Players cannot participate in the Academy Playoffs or Academy Championships. i think any more than 6, and not changed to FT endangers the eligibility status of that team.

DP rules

Whether or nor Arlington will allow it, that seems pretty club specific, but check that above DP link and the potential pitfalls.

1. Yes, we did that last year (though honestly with DA programming, she missed a lot)
2. Are you switching DAs, or moving to a DA? (curious). If so, which DA to which DA?
