A DP spot is not something for a kid "who can't do DA full-time". Generally a DP will train with the DA team and that will vary per club. In some instances they could train exclusively with the DA team and play games with their clubs NPL or CCL team or whatever. Some DPs may simply get extra training with the DA team which likely means an additional night of practice in addition to the regular team practice. So depending on your reasons for not being able to do DA full-time, being a DP may not be a solution. Also, a DP should not be asked for if all you want to do is get the training and try it on. It is hard for the clubs to use DP slots appropriately if the player is not intent on making the full DA team. Basically, if DA can't be committed to now what is likely to change over the year to suddenly make it doable to even bother with the hassle of being a DP? And if you are hoping to play HS soccer and thinking that being a DP will give you the showcase benefits of DA while still playing HS don't count on it. Most clubs will not take DPs to showcases as a matter of practice unless to fill an injury. And if they do, they are not sacrificing a FT players minutes in a showcase for a DP. |
Exactly. I don’t expect college/pro scouts to be watching my 6th grade, 12-year old U13 kid. People are delusional. If somebody is telling you this is happening, you are an idiot to believe it. |
So, do you just choose to ignore the posts that said the U13 kids are simply attending regular tournaments? You can dial back your outrage, nobody is being delusional but you are not hearing the facts. |
we know parents in Arlington who've told us no U13 travel to showcases because it makes no sense at that age and something about a pilot. looks like they just committed to missing school and paying the $ bucks to do the same as ECNL at U13. parents always the last to know. |

To all and sundry, what killed the other thread was all the name calling: idiot, delusional, emotional, "laughing" at people's posts, some sexism for good measure, etc.
Folks, let's try to be more mature this go around. If we can't talk like adults, how can we help support our youth athletes in having the character it takes to compete at a higher level? Please. |
No. |
I think the reason for choosing DA is a developmental one, or at least that was why we chose it. My DD complained that she wasn't getting better, and to be honest - as a soccer player myself - I had to agree with her. So DA at U13 is about playing in a competitive environment. Showcases don't matter for U13 because no one is - or should - be committing to colleges at that age. It's not a bad idea to attend some local tournaments that conform to DA standards so that players can practice at playing in those environments, but to travel all the way to FL or CA when your child is nowhere near that age is a waste of coin. |
| One of the most sensible statements on this board. |

That's all besides the point. Agree. But it looks like Arlington told its 13U GDA players to plan for trips to CA, FL, and NC.
What have WS and FCV told 13U players about expected out of state travel to these states for showcase or other similar type tournaments? |
That question was already answered on page two. |
| Dallas and New Jersey for 13U, is that WS or FCV? I doubt that answer applies to both, so I would still be curious to get a complete answer. |
Unless you are on either team why do you care? And if you are on either team then just ask your TD directly. |
Wouldn't families on the team need to know this information before they commit to the team? |
| Yes. |
