AAP appeal declined

That would be ridiculous. Having a rule that they do not provide explanations makes sense. Having exceptions to that rule doesn't make sense.

Why would it be ridiculous? AAP is FCPS' means of fulfilling the state's gifted mandate. A child with WISC FSIQ > 130 is technically gifted. If FCPS is not going to provide gifted services to children who have been determined to be gifted via a 1-1 examination with a licensed professional, FCPS should have to explain.

I agree that it would be ridiculous to provide reasons to everyone or even to provide reasons in the first round. Rejections of kids with gifted level WISCs after appeals should be quite rare, and there's no reason at all that they couldn't take a little time to justify the decision.

I wish he has got it as no one can guess with his scores he got rejected

We have reached out to the psychologist who tested Wisc to see what Fcps might be looking

OP in your first post you stated you got email for his rejection during appeal! I did not know if FCPS has started delivering decision via email!!

OP is clearly a troll.

Fcps does not email AAP results, accepted or rejected.

Our DD also got rejected and yes they emailed the rejection letter which was odd to us too

Agreed and in this case there are three tests that show the child is above their 132 cutoff for in pool with one a perfect score.

Anonymous wrote:The appeals committee has reviewed the appeal regarding your child’s placement in the full- time Advanced Academic Level IV Program. After careful review of all data, including the new information provided with the appeal, the committee determined that your child is not eligible for Level IV services in Fairfax County Public Schools at this time.

He will be going to floris elementary

Not eligible at this time.

He is a 2nd grader applying in the round meant for 3rd through 8th graders. He is not eligible to enter into AAP mid year, which is what the October round is for (That is why this round includes 8th graders, for mid year admission).

The correct round for a 2nd grader is the January round.

"Not eligible....at this time" is what they say for kids who don't make it. They use "at this time" because you can always reapply. For those who get in they say "eligible."

OP's child currently lives in Fairfax County and attends a private school. This FCPS link clearly says the October dates OP listed were ok. Please stop posting that OP applied in the wrong timeframe if you haven't taken the time to actually look up the answer. Plus, if she did apply in the wrong timeframe, someone from FCPS would have told her this (for example, the AART she spoke to after her DC was originally found not eligible). Here's the link. https://www.fcps.edu/registration/advanced-academics-identification-and-placement/elementary-school/privatehome-schooled

That merely says what happens with respect to 3-8th graders because they can start st different times. Did you read the part that said:

Private and Home School Students: Screening files for Level IV Services are accepted on October 30-31, 2017 and January 25-26, 2018. Parents of students in Grades 2-7 may apply for full-time placement.

This is cut and pasted from the FCPS page that is linked above. Reading comprehension is missing on this thread.

Based on your analysis, second graders would not be eligible for the January 12th deadline pool either because they only say when 3-8th graders start too.

Identification Schedule: Spring 2018

January 12, 2018

Advanced Academic Programs Level IV Referral Form and optional materials for students in Grade 2 who are not in pool and students in Grades 3–7 due to Advanced Academic Resource Teacher (AART) at attending elementary school or school counselor at the middle school.
PLEASE NOTE: Due to the tight time frame, do not wait for test information to submit a referral if you would like your student screened. No exceptions to the referral deadline are made.
March 2018

Central Selection Committee meets
April 5-6, 2018

Eligibility decisions mailed
April 17-27, 2018

Full-time AAP orientations held at Level IV sites (elementary school only)
May 11, 2018

Appeals due to AAP office
Fall 2018

Eligible students in Grades 3-8 may attend full-time AAP sites beginning first semester

+1 to the above post. Please see https://www.boarddocs.com/vsba/fairfax/Board.nsf/files/APNLFD51B934/$file/N2401%20FY18.pdf page 2 on the bottom about the application deadline for private and home school children. Our child attends private school and we turned our package in on October 30, 2017. We received our child's acceptance letter in the mail (snail mail) the week between Christmas and New Year's.

OP, like another person stated, try to find out if your child's file was mixed up with another child's. Mistakes happen and I am sure more will be made. Don’t be afraid to find someone to speak with at the AAP central office and see if you can get more information. Best of luck.

Op here

I had waited all day to receive a call back from aap office
They had said yesterday, a specialist will call and address any concerns

We are thinking of going to their office or to wait for the call

Anyone has any input?

One of the PP mentioned his kids file got mixed up and then straightened it out. Can you tell whom you had contacted?

I would wait for a call back and make an appointment so that you have the right people lined up to help you and straighten things up in one visit.

Wait until 11 am tomorrow. Then call again saying you called two days ago and you were told someone would call you yesterday, and no one did. Ask if they know who will be calling back and when.
