AAP appeal declined

Call or email the AART at the base school your house is zone for. Most people would be perplexed by this. Ignore the snark.

Op here Thanks for the responses

I called the local AART when the original application was rejected. She suggested WISC as she could not say why it was rejected

Will call her again on the appeal decision

His current school did an info session on AAP and all his classmates applied at the same time so I guess timing not an issue

2nd graders do not do level 4.

The fall application is for kids who transfer over at semester.

The application process for next year (3rd for your kid) just closed.

You applied at the wrong time is my guess.

You and the PP stating she applied at the wrong time do not know what you're talking about.

There are private schools out there that run info sessions on AAP and have nearly all of the students apply? That seems odd. Did you ever see the file that your school submitted?

My son goes to private school currently and is in 2nd grade

We applied for aap and got rejected with NNAT - 160(99%) and cogat-139 composite score. They said they don’t care much about GBRS from private school teachers, he got 15.

We had taken wisc V with private doc and he got FSIQ 138 and appealed with this score

Today we got an email saying he is not eligible

I went through the forum and also met many FCPS parents, everyone is puzzled with this decision

Has anyone gone through similar experience

Please share

Thanks

I don't know the answer to your question but if your child did not get in, mine surely did not.

I am the PP. We are at a FCPS ES, not a private school, so I am not familiar with the timeline. Looking at the website, it seems to me that October isn't the right time, but I could be mistaken. Did you apply for AAP from private school in October?

I was surprised by this, too, unless it is a school that only goes Preschool to early elementary???

For the person who said your child surel didn’t get in of OP’s didn’t, don’t assume that. Many, many kids with lower scores will get in. This is some off fluke. OP, do you know if your child’s classmates got in?

Op here

Yes his current school had an info session as they have only till fourth grade

For private schoolers the school does not build the file we have to. The only thing they provide is GBRS

Yes his classmates got in with lesser scores in both cogat and Wisc

This makes no sense. What sort of work samples did you submit?
Anonymous
OP here

His math worksheets showing 3 digit multiplication and some samples of division. A sample of essay writing which his teacher graded excellent. Cursive writing sample sheet.

Certificates from his school on advanced math, science etc and recommendations from chess coach, his class teacher etc

“Private and Home School Students: Screening files for Level IV Services are accepted on October 30-31, 2017 and January 25-26, 2018. Parents of students in Grades 2-7 may apply for full-time placement.”

We submitted in October Results were mailed by December 23rd and appeal deadline was January 16th

I am not a troll but seriously lost on the selection process.

I tried calling aap number in FCPS and they said scores are not the only one they look at , don’t know what else is needed

Cogat : verbal -119, quantitative-140, nonverbal-136
Wisc V : verbal -130, fluid reasoning-137 working memory-142

There are very strong scores! Only thing is verbal 119 in Cogat. Could this be an issue according to some posts here claiming 120 could be a threshold...

The only thing I can think of, is that they deemed his verbal skills sub-par, and there were not enough or not strong enough work samples to demonstrate otherwise.

I also don't understand why the application was submitted in October, for a second grader. Presumably, the child would not be able to go to FCPS in the 2017-2018 school year, which seems to be the purpose for that particular admission set.

I would suggest trying again. This is very seriously skewed.

I think this troll post!

NNAT 160, Cogat 139, WISC 130, GBRS 15, recommendations etc.

Op here

I wish he has got it as no one can guess with his scores he got rejected

We have reached out to the psychologist who tested Wisc to see what Fcps might be looking

Honestly why do you want him to be in AAP? They won't do this till 4th grade even in AAP.
