Hi all,
My son goes to private school currently and is in 2nd grade We applied for aap and got rejected with NNAT - 160(99%) and cogat-139 composite score. They said they don’t care much about GBRS from private school teachers, he got 15. We had taken wisc V with private doc and he got FSIQ 138 and appealed with this score Today we got an email saying he is not eligible I went through the forum and also met many FCPS parents, everyone is puzzled with this decision Has anyone gone through similar experience Please share Thanks |
| It's an evil empire. I'm sorry Op. I've got nothing |
|
Either you're a troll or something is amiss and wrong or missing with what you've shared.
Former FCPS teacher...no way this is true unless it is one of those two things. |
| That doesn't make any sense...what were his verbal scores? |
|
Either I don't understand the timeline or you don't. For 2nd grade students not currently attending FCPS, I thought applications were due on January 25 and would receive eligibility notifications in April, with appeals due in May.
Are you following a different timeline? |
| Appeals aren’t don’t until spring so obviously this is a troll. |
|
Is your child already enrolled in FCPS? The instructions for applying to AAP from outside FCPS say that no child can be considered until they are enrolled. I'd think this means you can't do anything until the end of this school year if you're not looking to transfer right now.

Op here
“Private and Home School Students: Screening files for Level IV Services are accepted on October 30-31, 2017 and January 25-26, 2018. Parents of students in Grades 2-7 may apply for full-time placement.” We submitted in October Results were mailed by December 23rd and appeal deadline was January 16th I am not a troll but seriously lost on the selection process. I tried calling aap number in FCPS and they said scores are not the only one they look at , don’t know what else is needed Cogat : verbal -119, quantitative-140, nonverbal-136 Wisc V : verbal -130, fluid reasoning-137 working memory-142 |
| I don't exactly understand the process, but I do know that the October application was not the correct one for you. That one is for students who have just moved or transferred in, so that they can move to AAP now rather than wait until next fall. IOW, your DC is not eligible for that application period. |
|
Private school students can apply in one of those two application windows so October is fine.
I don't understand why you're rejected. Since FCPS second graders file haven't been reviewed, they're not very flexible or generous accepting a lot of students from outside FCPS system just yet. Applying in January would have given you a better chance. |
But there aren't limited spots. The WISC seems high enough. Op, why don't you call the AART at the school that your child would normally attend and try to get some feedback? |
|
People on here act like they know exactly what's goes into making the Level IV decisions, but they don't. I don't think that anyone on the screening committee posts in the AAP forum on DCUM, so none of us can tell you why your child's appeal was denied. My advice is to try again next year.
And for all of you calling OP a troll, I reported your posts. I'm sick of seeing people call others trolls just because they can't fathom the incident. Grow up. |
2nd graders do not do level 4. The fall application is for kids who transfer over at semester. The application process for next year (3rd for your kid) just closed. You applied at the wrong time is my guess. |
| Obviously you should sue. |
If this is the case, why didn't the first letter saying her DC was not found eligible say that and recommend resubmitting in January? Also, why would they send her information on appealing instead? |
