We are doing something wrong to women in our homes.

Womens Studies contributes to the wage gap, it is useless , stop whining and get into a major that will produce a marketable skill. The study quoted stated women have to start getting into STEM if we expect wide scale parity.

Do people really think like this??

Women could receive 100 percent of the STEM diplomas and there’d still be a wage gap as long as women are responsible for bearing children and there isn’t paid maternity leave and equality at home to keep them in the workforce or on the same trajectory as men.

This is why you have countries like Japan with low birth rates and the US where most babies are born to uneducated single women.

And majoring in womens studies resolves the issues you list how? People do think like this, so does the World Economic Forum that published the study, in fact they said it.
You assumptions are just that assumptions and they are wrong. Maternity leave is very common in tech companies and if it weren't it would have virtually no effect on the wage gap overall. "Equality" at home? Are you serious, that is an individual issue to be sorted out by people in their household.

As for you demographics explain Europe where maternity leave is common and the birth rate is lower than the US. Womens (and mens) career fields and occupation are the single largest contributor to income differences. If 100% of STEM degrees went to women it would make a big difference in the gap and be great for everyone.

But men just sit and take it like the Heros they are.

Nonsense, but it isn't like that because men work, go into higher paying fields, work in more dangerous jobs that pay more. Men come up worse in virtually every "bad thing" that can happen categories yet no ribbons, marches. Why they are too busy making things happen and do not have the same love for complaining women do.

You mean like murdering people and killing people in wars? Men are responsible for almost all of the suffering on this planet. Sure you may start businesses but you also have a serious issue with violence. The only reason you’ve been able to accomplish so much is because you’ve had free labor to take care of your children and home and you don’t bear the burden of having children. You’re gender is a disgrace.

If that's how you feel , get the hell off a forum for relationships with men. Because you don't want one.

I pray to god you don’t have a girlfriend, wife or daughters. Wow.

Why because I think logically and realistically? (so do the study authors, they also said women have to start getting into STEM) I do have daughters and a wife, we use logic. You keep operating off your "feels" and you will always have something to complain about.

I believe the seeds of this message germinate in our homes, and then society. If we are serious about erasing gender inequality, we have to stop and take inventory of our behavior at home - and assess how those norms may be inadvertently sending our DH and DC the wrong messages.

A recent report by The World Economic Forum says that "equality is in retreat" for the first time since the group starting tracking the issue in 2006. The report, which examines gender imbalances in economics and the workplace, education, politics and health, found that years of global gains made by women are beginning to erode.

The U.S. slipped four spots to 49th out of 144 countries. It now ranks behind countries including the United Kingdom (15th), Australia (35th) and Bangladesh (47th). Back in 2006, the U.S. was in the 23rd spot. Here's the ranking of the best 10 countries for gender equality:

1. Iceland
2. Norway
3. Finland
4. Rwanda
5. Sweden
6. Nicaragua
7. Slovenia
8. Ireland
9. New Zealand
10. Philippines

Men do chores, they make half the income, they're great fathers and supportive parents. Our father's generation (boomers) and our grandfather's generation (born in 20s) didn't do any of this. The world is changing!

I do know quite a few women though who complain about their lazy husbands, but raise lazy sons too. They just don't see the disconnect that they're raising someone's future lazy husband.

Why not blame the dad for raising a lazy boy?

Because its neither the father or son that is last, women love to complain and do it constantly. Women really if you look a the facts are in no place to call men lazy. Facts suggest otherwise

Are these real facts or alternative facts?

Neither they were contrasting opinions, well except for the women complaining part. That a return of stupidity fire.

This thread isn’t about relationships with men. Seriously take a look at the crime stories in the morning news tomorrow. You’ll see they all have something in common - a man.

Yes it says the study was weight on rate of change, not inputs or nominal out puts. People that actually read the methodology understand that but it makes better click bait this way.

Look at actresses in the UK. There are many, many relatively normal looking women. In the US you must be a sex goddess.

This, and just in the recent decade it has permeated into the MILF and Cougars. Women are now more than EVER expected to be "sex kittens" well into middle age. However, we women do it to ourselves. One only needs to look at Instagram and the culture of female selfie narcissism to see exactly how and why we are moving backwards. We objectify ourselves and then cry boo-hoo when men no longer know how to act around us. So many mixed message.

I think women need to take a hard look in the mirror to find the answers.

My god what is with some women and this anti-attractive obsession. Is it an excuse for not being as successful as you had hoped or fat women jealous? Really, I dont get it. Women in the US do not put in anywhere near the effort in their appearance of women in other most Europe or Latin American, not even close. Stop making excuses and focus on high earning fields.

Actually I speak from experience, at least the experience of a high SES woman who steps right into the pitfalls. I'm 45 and feel immense pressure to keep up. It is exhausting. There certainly are women out there who say f*ck it and don't bother and in a way I really admire them.

In order to remain a size 6 at 45, I'm borderline exercise obsessed, I watch every bite of food that goes into my mouth, I dye my hair every 5 weeks, I work hard to keep my hair long AND healthy, I spend a small fortune on well fitting clothes that are slightly trendy, but not too trendy that it makes me look like I'm in the midst of a mid-life crisis, I've had my boobs lifted and enhanced, I avoid the sun like the plague, and have a treasure chest of cosmetics and creams...it is an uphill battle. Many of the women in my peer group do just the same, some have had elective c-sections to spare their vagina and then all the tucks afterwards, many do botox and fillers, and some have moved into blepharoplasty as the eyes have gotten puffier and the lids have started to droop.

You all can deny this until you are blue in the face, but within groups of women who can afford this, this type of hamster wheel of being sexy after babies and being a sexy cougar is absolutely rampant.

I'm the mother, and I have a demanding career. My husband has a less demanding career, so he's the default parent. Our children (boys) are being raised in a home where they are expected to clean up after themselves. They know how to cook. They know how to do laundry and put clothes away. They help with yard work.

Most importantly: they know I'm not the maid. And they know that we don't have a maid, so we're all responsible for pitching in to maintain the house.

+100
The way it should work.

DP... pay gap in STEM exists, too. There are a few lawsuits going around about the disparity.

I’m the pp who said I hope he doesn’t have a wife or daughters. I actually have a stem degree and a fantastic career. The fact a male comes on here and stars talking about “womens studies” doesn’t even warrant a response about the wage gap and inequality at home. So I responded about something else - that I hope he doesn’t have any close female relatives or a girlfriend.

What a shocking response from a male! Although I guess at least you’re not out there murdering, raping and/or fighting in a war?
