I think the current 5th graders at Eaton are the last with feeder rights to Deal (unless they have a sibling already attending). If that's correct, the earlier poster's underlying point is correct. Starting in Sep. 2018, Deal presumably would be getting about 70 fewer elementary kids. |
| Shepherd WL IB kids this year for PK3. That's new. https://dcps.dc.gov/page/my-school-dc-lottery-results |
| How long does it take the kids who went Shepherd to drive to Deal in the morning, anyway? 45 minutes? Shepherd's near the MD border off 16th street, for goodness' sake! |
There's a "Deal bus" that picks up on 16th and goes straight to Deal. I've driven from Shepherd Park to the Tenleytown area in under 15 min with no traffic. Not sure how long it takes with traffic (my Shepherd kid is younger). |
Isn't it a wmata bus that just happens to be filled with Shepherd kids? |
| Will Deal just add trailers for the overcrowding? |
Puhlease...It takes less than 20 minutes, in traffic. Have you not heard of Waze? |
Well, OK, if you have to run an obstacle course every day in order to get your kid to class at Deal within 30 minutes, I guess I wouldn't consider that a hardship -- considering the other options available, if that's the choice you've got. |
No, it is a bus dedicated ONLY to Deal students, and adults cannot board. |

Waste of money.
MacFarland, baby! |
Deal has reached about the limit of how much it can expand. DCPS will have its hand forced because they have already built out about as much as they can. |
NP but I drive my kid from SP to Lafayette every day in 6 minutes flat. When we do sunmercamp that has bus next to Wilson it takes 8-10 minutes. We are in the south side of SP and summertime is usually a few minutes faster. It is not bad at all. No traffic. |
So your argument (based on one data point - you) is that because you drive from the SP neighborhood to another elementary school during low traffic summer hours for camp, that the configuration of middle school feeders vis-a-vis traffic is null and void? Wow - you're a genius! Have you considered curing cancer in a DCUM post? |
You're a mean person. No, every single day I drive to Lafayette to drop my kid of at school. It takes me about 6-7 minutes. Lafayette to Wilson is another 5-6 minutes during school time. |
The earlier poster's underlying point is wrong - nothing is leveling off. The current Eaton 4th graders will go to Hardy but then ultimately feed back into Wilson. Wilson will get hit in a few years with a surge of kids. There is no drop-off in the number of kids coming up through the younger grades. |
